Hey guys, I think I had a virus at the weekend and managed to get rid of it with Search and Destroy, but I think the damage has already been done.

My Norton Internet Security wont work, meaning I cant do a full scan. I tried to install AVGfree, a virus protection program recommended by a friend but an error message keeps coming up saying "Invalid command line argument " ". It also wont allow me to install Microsoft Malicious Software Removal.

When I boot up the laptop, some message comes up saying comething about ghosttray.exe. I cant remember exactly what it says but if you's think its important I can get it later. It also changed stupid things, like when I click on Creative Organiser, the Player was coming up istead.

Please take into account I'm not great with computers so if you could dumb it down or perhaps even draw diagrams in crayon it'll be much appreciated :D

    check out http://housecall.trendmicro.com/

There is another thing that comes to mind in that some virii change the registry so when you run an exe file (program file) it will run its own virus first then your program.
So if you successfully delete the virus file but dont fix the registry, can run into problems like that.

try the online virus scan above first. and if you need me to dig out an easy way to check the registry let me know. (i should be monitoring this thread if not shoot me a PM)

Virus scan is running at the minute. I tried to access the registry by typing regedit in the Run command but it wont let me. Do you know some other way?
