    Hi,

I have a Samsung tv with 3 HDMI ports, as well as the usual array of other ports. To this I want to connect a htpc via HDMI, and a Televes satellite receiver (for freeview) which uses scart.

Right now I have an old Sony surround sounds system with no hdmi inputs. What I'd like to do is have a 5.1 amp and speakers that play back the audio from the PC and the satellite through all the 5 speakers.

Whats the easiest way to do this? I'm looking at this set at the moment, would this do everything I need?

    Full spec

Would this be as simple as connecting all the inputs to the tv, turning off the TV speakers and then having one output to the speakers?

    Hi Clubcrown,

I too have a Samsung TV, a HTPC and in my case a NTL box linked to 5.1. However, in my case I'm using a separate amp and speakers this is more expensive than an all in one but yields a better result. That said you just need to find a system that handles your Inputs and I’m sure you’ll be happy with the results !

Just looked at the spec on the Samsung system you linked to. As it has no component, digital, coax or hdmi INPUTS I don't think it's a good fit for you.

You need to detail if you want surround sound from both the HTPC and the SAT receiver.

You need to detail what sound outputs are on the HTPC and the SAT receiver.

Minor point - bear in mind the SAT receiver may not send a true surround sound. That means the unit you send the sound to will need to add processing such as Dolby Pro Logic II or Neo to handle this, not a big deal really as most have this including the one you linked to. This is the case for me with NTLs signal.

The more detail the better, others more knowledgeable will be in a position to help too. If your not sure on the outputs from the htpc/sat box maybe post up the model numbers and links to the specs.

    Cheer,
    majj
