Out on the 7th November is a new cop flick starring Ed Norton and Colin 'd'ya think I'm gorgeous' Farrell, based on the NYPD entitled 'Pride and Glory'.

I saw a trailer for it the other day and though I'm not a massive fan of Farrell, it looks pretty good.

Of possible interest to folks on here is an interesting breakdown of the history of the NYPD shield and patch on the film's website. Click on 'The Badge' link from the main page.

Fair play to ye metman for finding that. The history of the badge was interesting.

I would be with on the Colin Farrell thing. I am a great fan of Edward Norton. I think his acting skills are second to none when it comes gritty parts. I'm just hoping that Farrell is able to carry off his part in the film to have two great adversaries. Hopefully it will be a great movie.

I think its great that the old badges are kept, re-coated and re-issued, so you have officers wearing badges that are, in some instances, over a hundred years old. Very cool.

Poor aul NYPD, they get shown in movies in a very poor light. Still going to see it though :p

Funnily enough I just saw 'American Gangster' last night. Great film, Denzel Washington and Russell Crowe were brilliant. Being based on a true story. . . 1/3 of NYPD drug enforcement officers were exposed to be on the take! Karl, you couldn't be more right about NYPD in films!

The NYPD are constantly shown in a bad light but in fairness I am always left thinking that they just look so cool doing it.

Imagine if a film was made about Donegal?

This is a summary of the Morris Tribunal it gives details of those who were found to be corrupt and those who were found to be negligent.

The negligent ones were those in supervisory positions who didn't know or didn't want to know what was going on.

The corrupt ones were a small group who had the protection of a Superintendent who believed he was untouchable.

No excuses for either group and glad to see the back of them, but for the majority of decent Gardai in Donegal I always prefer to see the words "some Gardai" used when describing Garda negligence/corruption in Donegal.

Sorry Clada i totally agree with ye. I'm normally the one saying "some but not all" but that didn't come across in my post.

Yeah corruption was a massive problem in the 60s and 70s running into the 80s (not helped with their poor recruitment and selection process then) but I think now they are on top of it.

Yes I believe the recruitment process has changed, but I don't know much about it!
