Feel free to move to appropriate forum....

I am now in the really annoying cycle of gettin a head cold every 2/3 weeks, not a full blown flu, but enough to knock me out for a whole day....so drained right now, sniff sniff:(

I have a deviated septum which might explain a lot, but its not like I've been jogging naked in the cold wind and rain lately :o

In all my time in Canada, suffering through some inhuman temperatures, i only ever had one cold, and that was during my first few days there in December temperatures.

I've been home a month now and have been suffering ever since.. sniff sniff

Are you getting enough vitamin C? Take a rubex every day and you won't get a cold.

Wind chill is the killer in Illinois in Winter, this year maybe got a slight headcold for about 2 days and I was pretty much back to full health the next day.

Around the end of October like clockwork every year...which then turns into bronchitis every year. Felt it starting a few days ago.

My symptoms at the moment are like an aggravated hay fever. Some one mentioned to the other half last night [stuck in bed myself] that conditions are caused because of winds coming from the North and some sort of allergen that is not normal to this part.

Tried goggling to verify any of this but no result. My symptoms are like a bad cold but are definitely allergy related. Lemsips, Garlic, Aspirin etc wouldn't shift the problem but will try some anti histamines and see if it works.

Any one heard the same - not an urban myth??

I think the "goggling" could be the problem.

I got the flu jab a couple of years back, cut the number of colds/severity of ongoing blocked nose problem by a good chunk. My sister got the jab too and it has reduced the number of chest infections she was getting.

Usually just one bad one a year..

2-3 a year I'm nearly recovered from the one I developed last weekend.

Usually one bad one during the year, and maybe two minor ones.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,181 ✭✭✭LolaDub

I have one now thats lasted about three weeks! The liffey has re-routed itself through my nose, my head has a headache bordering on a mygraine all the time and i'm in absolute agony! /moan over

Usually i get maybe 2 a year, i guess around the change of the season. Whenever it starts getting nippy out i know there will be one along soon

The Flu jab and a cure for the common cold are two completely different things. Trust me - if you ever got the flu you would know about it.

Haven't had a full blown cold in a couple of years now since I started taking vitamin supplements (also improved my diet significantly) everyday, if I feel I'm getting a cold I just double the dose for a couple of days until symptoms are gone. It works for my dad aswell (his diet isn't great by any standard)...

Usually one bad one during the year, and maybe two less bad ones.

I wish there was an option to not thank people

Pretty much never, not even the slightest sniffle normally. Got the flu about about ten or twelve years ago, it's the only time in my life I remember ever having it.

I honestly don't mind colds at all, they are an excuse to drink lemsip. Yum.

I've devolped hayfever on holidays for the last few years.
Now that is annoying. Being somewhere beautiful and not being able to see through streaming eyes.

Haven't had a cold or flu in about a year and a half - had days when I thought I was coming down with something, but the sickness never really materialised.

Last time I was sick was around valentines day last year - and it was the worst I was ever with a flu, 2 days in bed, not able to move - my antibodies seem to be unstoppable ever since!

I get about 2/3 colds per year. This is the first year that i have been eating healthy, taking multi vitamins, vit c, and exercising, so that might change though. I heard that the cold viruses aren't as bad if you keep yourself healthy.

I have had the beginning of a cold for the past week- sniffles, cough, not hungry as much. The beginning isn't half as bad as it used to though. It just wont come, take its course and f off. I have been taking loads of vit c and echinacea lately.

Feels like every 2nd week at least these days :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,584 ✭✭✭✭Creamy Goodness

depends what you define as a cold.

is it the full works of blocked/runny nose/sore throat/cough or just one of those?

i would get all three at once, once per year.

i would then get 2/3 of them once a year each.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1 JPGB

I seemed to be getting them pretty regularly last year about 6 or 7 times a year up until I started eating an orange or mandarin a day fruit with Vitamin C. This year I've only had one.

I think i have an alergy of some sort as i am sneezing all year round so hard at times to tell it it's a full blown cold .Think it might be Rhinitis but yesterday i bought some vicks sinus nasel spray and some happinose ointment to rub in nose , to help prevent any allergens getting in .Just in case :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,982 ✭✭✭Caliden

2/3 a year maybe. Can tell when im about to get one and its usually after a night out getting drenched while waiting for a cab or after 3/4 nights out in a row.
Basically whenever I dont get enough sleep/proper food

    Can't stand it.
On a combination of lemsip/manuka honey/ olbas oil inhaler at present

Yes I would define the above as a cold (with the cough being optional!)....along with queasy stomach and pounding headache....dont think its a flu though as it usually passes in a day or 2.

I very rarely get a cold or get sick or anything. In 4th 5th and 6th year in secondary school I didn't miss a single day for non-school related reasons (except for the TCD open day....where I had to take a half day off school to attend)

At the moment though I have this weird annoying cough that just won't go away. Have had it for almost two weeks now.

I've had a cold, or at least been run down since mid September at least, as soon as I shake off one thing I'm hit with another :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,573 ✭✭✭✭Frisbee

I'd say at least one a month. Probably more in the winter. I'll come home from training on monday night and wake up with a cold on tuesday, to kind of recover by thursday when I go training again, to be better for saturday when I have a match.

    Its a vicious cycle...

i work with snotty nosed little kids. i've had a cold since i took the job in february.

I had a cold about once every three months when I lived and worked in London and commuted on public transport. When I started working for myself and stopped commuting, I didn't have a cold for nearly 18 months.

I work part time at a hospital now, and while I'm in administration I still need to remember to use waterless antibacterial hand rub stuff all of the time. I caught the flu earlier this year from working there - proper flu, temp 102, lasted two weeks, off work for eight days sort of flu. It sucks.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,467 ✭✭✭smemon

I just take a few tablets when i sense one coming on - problem solved :pac:

If it's a sore throat i'll just keep drinking all day - problem solved.

In any case, it's all huffing and puffing over nothing - a cold doesn't stop me from walking about or doing any work.

I hate those guys who ring in 'sick' when all they have is a cold or a sore throat.

In the past around one or two a year.

Since we got our air conditioned at work, now one every two months.

Most recent cold lasted from 19 June to 1 October.

Maybe once in 22 years, for like a day. Never get sick really, did once when I was a child.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,290 ✭✭✭trowelled

I've suffered with sinus problems all my life. I can deal with the hayfever problems it creates in the summer but the winter can be miserable sometimes. If someone around me has a cold I contract it but it is never just an ordinary cold. It turns into sinitus and then into a chest infection. Last christmas had to go on two courses of antibiotics, hopefully this year won't be the same!!

Vicks First Defence nasal spray is brilliant for stopping a head cold in its' tracks. Wash hands frequently or use an anti bacterial hand gel as a lot of bugs are transmitted through the eyes and nose from the fingers. Gargle regularly with mouthwash and suck Strepsils if you've a head cold, it'll help stop it travelling to the throat and chest.
