I'm writing an article for College View on the Halloween Ball and some students thinking DCU IDs would be accepted... if this happened to you, could you please PM me or reply below. Thanks.

yeah i assumed dcu id would be ok as i've never used anything else at a dcu ball but the guys on the door wouldn't even look at it and were trying to turn me away. In the end all I had to do was tell them my age (23!) and one guy said "go on then, bring id next time". crazy :D

They've no one to blame but themselves if they didn't bring a proper ID, I mean a bit of cop on tbh your DCU ID doesn't have your date of birth on it of course they wouldn't accept it cause we weren't on campus.

it does have your date of birth and its accepted in lots of places not just on campus.

Not anymore, in previous years when you had to pay for bar membership they added a date of birth to the cards of the students who paid for it.

Now that bar membership is free, cards don't have a date of birth on them (at least most don't, I've seen one or two that do for some unexplained reason)

Mine has the DOB, strange that not all of them do  At the ball I also had my ISIC card and they weren't interested in that, would have thought that would be accepted everywhere.

This years student card doesnt have your date of birth on it, and nowhere in their right mind would take it as proof of age.

See above robby^5, some of this years do have the DOB. I assumed (as I would expect anyone whose card still has their DOB would) that they all still had DOB and would continue to be accepted as proof of age. Given that they're easily recognizable, hard to copy and are produced by a reputable organisation I dont get why accepting them as proof of age is as crazy as you suggest it is. Although now that they're apparently removing the DOB obviously they cant be used in future - which is a pitty I think.

Well anyone under 18 has a yellow backing to the barcode. So I don't see why the bouncers wouldn't take them for a DCU-only event.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 159 ✭✭LaMer

The bouncers aren't DCU contracted bouncers, so they only took government ID, simple as. Also it wasn't a DCU only event, lots of "guest" tickets were sold.
