On paper it's great for the cash spec wise, it's the quality of the actual Medion machines that has me worried, now i stand to be corrected, but i've seen a lot of threads popping up with medion laptops, not too sure what the quality is like these days.

I am also interested in the Aldi laptop.

I just dont fancy the standing outside at 8am to get one!

Are there any similar spec/price laptops available online?

What about this its around €750 delivered? The only problem I have is the 1 yr warranty!

The Aldi 3 yr warranty is a huge bonus!

I wouldn't recommend this laptop because you simply cant trust the brand. My dad bought a laptop from Lidl a few years ago and it was one of the worst laptops he has ever had. It was a Targa. The price isnt actually that good. I recommend looking at the dell.ie website and then looking at the Studio 15 or 17 laptops. They are a good price and you can be confident that they will work well.

I bought one of the Targa Traveller 811 laptops from LIDL nearly 4 years ago, and its still going strong. No major issues with build quality, with the exception of minor cracks around the hinges. 3 year collect and return warranty also which you have to pay for anywhere else.

Medion and Targa are very similar as far as I know.

I am currently using a Targa I bought from Lidl over 3 yrs ago. The 3 yr warranty was a blessing as in the last year I need the LCD replacing, motherboard and psu. I want to keep this as a backup but am looking at either the Aldi laptop or the Acer Aspire 6920 which is approx €900 delivered from Pixmania.

One advantage for me is it comes with a Blu Ray drive but it only has a 2yr warranty!

I know one person that had a MEDION that lasted 3yrs and another that lasted 5yrs. You have to work out the cost per year against the warranty. In this case its €250. I wuld stay the quality is the same as low end Dell. Ditto the screens. You'd get a better quality machine, but lower spec and shorter warranty from Sony. Depends what you want.

I just bought a Samsung Q310 for my bro last week, its similarly priced and spec'd to the aldi model bar the screen size.
Been using it a bit th last week, its a great little machine, its been gettting some decent reviews as well

FYI for anyone who bought this.

Having bought a gericom from lidl 4 years ago and still going strong, I had no qualms about this medion as the warranty of 3 years allayed any fears.

Have had one issue so far where the sensitivity of the touchpad is so that if your palm brushes off the pad while typing the cursor is jumping around the screen. The synaptics software didnt seem to be installed by default so I contacted the medion support number at 7pm last night, got an answer within 20 seconds for aldi phtoservice, they took the details, patched me through to very helpful guy in tech support who answered straight away and was able to tell me medion are using the microsoft drivers for it by default but if you download the synaptics drivers, google=friend, from the web and install, youll get the option to reduce "palm sensivity" (oo er) from the mouse option in control panel. Did this and issue with cursor resolved.

Jobs a good un. We dont like when things go wrong, but with hardware we have to expect that they will at times, when they do, judge how the vendor responds and in this instance, am very satisfied. +1 for medion.

The spec of that laptop is so good for the money and they seem to be pretty solid from what I've seen of them in shops.
I'd have bought one ages ago, if only it had firewire.

Check out this beast for 680 euro, best value gaming laptop I've ever seen.

Except the processor that they have in the spec is not the processor that's in the laptop. The actual processor is T5750 2.0ghz Intel Core 2 Duo. Read the product feedback tab.

I got the laptop on Tuesday. Have to say it's the best Laptop ever! Only one problem with it. For mobile broadband, a restart of Vista is necessary. Well for me it was. It also looks stunning!! Got Left for Dead and it plays the game no problem on the Highest settings while still having other programs running in background! Battery life is average. About 2 hours usage or a bit more. Depends on what your doing. Probable the graphics card eating it all up but I'm not complaining. Dell don't even supply these graphics cards in there laptops.

The 9600GS is more or less the same as the 8600GT in the XPS lines. ;)

yea don't believe everything you read on the internet. Try it for yourself. It might be the same card with a higher clock speed but it obiouslyh has advantages compared to its predessesor.... still people telling people that medion are crap don't have a clue. At the end of the day the hardware is Brill for the price and any prblems after that are usually softwate.. As long as its software it always can be fixed. This is worth at least double the price expecially when its physically looks so good!!

I wouldn't exactly say it's worth twice the price, Laptopsdirect have an Acer with a 9600GT - would soundly beat this laptop in games - for 689 euro new for example. It's not a bad laptop for the price, but neither is it particularly good in this day and age. People are too quick to quote Dell as the ultimate base comparison in the wrong contexts (dell gaming laptops were never known for their astounding value) and also use it as a price: performance gauge.

Nope, bought one last week, it's a P7350 alright, running at 2.0 GHz.
    And a 512 MB 9600m GT.

Some of those feedback comments are contradictory. There's another version of the same model on the site that's about 60 quid cheaper, that's got a T5750, might be where the confusion came from .

That acer laptops forum is all over the place.. They've obviously purposely made the tech notes really vague as to play safe in case your system doesn't come with what they promise.. Like a 9600 instead of just stating the GS or GT.. If its really GT you'd think they'd advertise it in the main specs. And whats the deal with the processor. It's like the guys on that website dont have a clue..
