Just back from a few days in New York. As usual did the trip with Aer Lingus to JFK direct. Now most of us know of the $45 charge from the airport to any part of manhattan. However the taxi takes an hour if not more. So on the return journey this time I paid $105 and flew from 34th street heliport, just beside the united nations to JFK in 8 minutes with US Helicopters.

Now the big plus for Delta is that if you use this service, you can check your bags through to Dublin and dont have to reclaim anything. Flight as I said took 8 mins, landed and was bused to the terminal, bags were there and then walked to terminal 4 to get aer lingus flight.

May not be for everybody but $100 for 8 mins in a heli versus over an hour in a cab for $60, I know which route Im taking in future.

But the Aer Lingus planes are a lot bigger and for a journey of about 5 or 6 hours that extra space is nice I would have thought...

Flew Aer Lingus to Boston last July and it was very comfy though no on-dmeand IFE (tv was one of the old drop down shared ones).

Not sure about Delta's IFE system but having just one aisle to go up and down on for 6 hours must be torture and besides Aer Lingus are usually fairly good on price if you book early, but not too early!

Delta are ok and not bad price wise, however when you land there their terminal is non existent and very old and you have to take the airtrain over to another terminal if you want to grab a bite to eat etc. similarly with outgoing passengers, once inside security in the Duty Free area is fine though.

Alot of the Delta flights are less than full so you get to change your seat Ryanair-esque which is nice if you are not allocated a Window seat at checkin.

Delta Boeing planes are 3 seats -Aisle- 3 seats while Aer Lingus' Airbuses are 2 seats -Aisle- 4 seats -Aisle- 2 seats in Economy. However I tend to travel Premium class with whoever I fly with, although last time I flew Economy and had no complaints with either airline. The Delta Cabin crew were friendly also with some nice New York gals, such a difference between them and the Ryanair drones.
