I am working for a magazine at the NIHS this weekend and went up today to get some shots of the shows that were on. Looked great inside with plenty of atmospheric lighting and a large spotlight. Not really too hard to shoot, used the 5d with the 85mm f1.2 and the 1dmk3 with the 135mm f2 both using spot metering and ISO values of around 400 to 3200. I shot in RAW and small jpeg which worked out very well as the small jpeg is very fast to go through but still with the backup of the full raw file, I must remember to use this more often. I had a look through the jpegs and heres a few that I like, feel free to comment :)

Heres the gear bag from today. 1dmk3 with Sigma 120-300 f2.8 in the centre, 5d to the left with 15mm fisheye. On the right is the 85mm f1.2 and the 135mm f2, about 50gb of cards and a 580exII for presentations. Also have an Epson P3000 for checking and backing up files. Extra batteries in the front pocket, the bag is a Lowepro Mini Trekker classic. I will probably change the 120-300 for the Canon 70-200 f2.8IS for tomorrow, I have all the really close up shots that I need and the arena isnt that big to get across.

I wanted some really close frame filling shots of riders and thats why the 120-300 came with me, this shot was at 221mm and f2.8 @ iso 3200 +1/3 of a stop and one run through Noise ninja. The Horses head is oof but it was the rider I had the focus point on, spot metering too.

It was very enjoyable to shoot, all jobs I am doing have that element to them even the small shows or a portrait. The enjoyable part of the show in Belfast for me personally is to take the showstopper shots, I really enjoy using the fast primes too which helps.

Great shots Keith. Makes me want a fisheye asap.

    Some really great shots there.

I posted this link before not sure if you seen it. It basically lets you shoot just a normal raw and extract out the embedded .jpg really fast (does a large folder in seconds). It may save you some space on the cards.

Although with 50gb's to play with maybe you will be okay :)

Thanks ttcomet, I will give it a shot..but as you say I should have enough in cards and the Epson has 40gb too !!

They had a really good act but I thought they were a bit lost in the larger arena, was ok for me though with the 70-200.
