sorry if this has been asked before, or if i sound stupid!!

i recently changed to sky+ and a friend told me that i could hook up my old sky box to another tv and I could still avail of the free channels without card etc.

is this true? and if so what do i need to do? i tried plugging sky box in and using a scart to connect it to tv but that didnt work so im wondering now does it need to be connected to outside aerial/satelite??

It certainly needs to be connected to the dish. You have a new LNB on the dish (the yoke on the arm of the dish) which should have 4 outputs, 2 already in use for the Sky+ box. All that needs to be done is feed another lead from the LNB to the old box.

Channels that are not part of the Sky subscription can be viewed, such as all the BBC, ITV and Channel 4 channels, they are Free to Air.

    I've a similar question.

I'm getting Sky multiroom and a shiney new HD box fitted as I type but they made a mess of the order and I won't have my second card for another few days. In the meantime I planned to use the old box to view FTA channels until the card arrives but if I switch it on without the viewing card inserted a message is displayed telling me to insert my card. I'm guessing that this is because my current box is ancient (about 8 years old) or maybe I'm missing something - can anyone enlighten me?

try a viewing card in upside down? If you don't have one, you can try an old bank/credit card, or a piece of cardboard the same size.

Thanks, but the guy who installed it got it working - it would work for me because I had additional channels tuned in that needed to be deleted first - then all the FTA channels could be tuned in.

So if I have this right, if you have added additional channels, say UTV, they have to be deleted before you can get the FTA channels??
