Kilkenny legend DJ Carey is considering an offer to become the next Dublin hurling manager after being approached by county board officials.

Dublin are looking for a high-profile manager to guide their fortunes over the next couple of years and after being turned down by former Tipperary player and manager Nicky English, they have turned their attention to securing the services of Carey, who spends much of his time in the capital these days.

Carey has never managed at club level, but he is a hugely respected figure in the game and would perfectly fit the profile being sought by the Dubs.
Dublin’s search for a successor to Tommy Naughton is in the hands of a four-man sub-committee comprising chairman Gerry Harrington, vice-chairman Danny O’Connor, secretary John Costello and the hurling representative to management, Sean Shanley.

They are hoping to have a candidate in place for the next county board meeting on November 3, but Harrington said that they would be prepared to defer that meeting by a week if necessary.

Well then I think they need to change the profile of who they're searching for.

Even as a Dub growing up, I idolised DJ but I don't think a group of players with promise at such a stage in their development really need a rookie manager.

And before anyone mentions Davy Fitz, he had good experience at club and colleges level.

I dont want him. But only because he is already a development officer for Wicklow and is trying to do good for Wicklow hurling. We should get someone else.

What club management experience has he got ? Outstanding hurler, one of the greatest, certainly of our generation, does not mean he will make a good manager though. I suppose he'd be worth a try and he'd have the automatic respect of all.

I really don't think so - respect maybe, but I don't see how throwing an unknown quantity into the mix as manager will help these players. Getting it wrong for two seasons, say, would be disastrous at this point for that Dublin team.

well djs appointment might be good to bring a bit of attention to the team(that seems to be the kind of manager the board is lookin for) but a rookie manager isnt the way to go
