Counsellors, Co. Kerry (Al Anon related?)

    Hi all,
I am trying to locate a counsellor(s) in Kerry that may deal specifically with alcohol related issues (its not that the person is an acoholic or has a problem but is having a hard time dealing with childhood family experiences (abusive alcoholic father) as a child that need to be addressed).

I have emailed Al Anon for direction as I can't see any contact numbers for Kerry (have the times of meetings and places etc). I'm hoping that Al Anon may be a good starting place for help.

In the meantime I would appreciate if anyone here may know of a good counsellor in Kerry that may deal with such issues or advice and experience in helping a friend through this.
    Many thanks!

Thanks for that - rang and spoke with a man who suggested attending an Al Anon meeting which I will suggest.

They don't work with or have contact with counsellors however and I feel that thi is what she needs (1 - 1).

Anyone here have any recommendations for counsellors in Kerry OR any experience in dealing with the effect of alcohol abuse on a family?
    Thanks guys.

You could try calling Talbot Grove in Castleisland. It's a centre that specialises in helping addicts, alcoholics etc and their families. Tel. 0667141511.

If they don't offer what you need, I'm sure they'll be able to point you in the right direction :)

You could try ringing the IACP on 01 2723427, as they would have a list of counsellors in the area, and also what their area of expertise is.

Also try IAAAC on 01 7979187, which is an addiction counselling organisation.

Alanon meetings would be a good place to start as a lot of the members would be adult children of alcoholics and your friend would be able to identify with them. Also some members may be attending a counsellor as well and may be able to recommend one.
Alanon itself is a peer support group of people affected by someone's drinking and is not a counselling service.
