    Hi,

I was just wondering if there's anyway of knowing when Ticketmaster will be putting extra tickets for sold out gigs on sale, they are constantly putting limited amounts of tickets for these gigs on sale on random days.

Is it word of mouth that people find out when they're on sale?? a heads up would be nice! On the off chance!

Extra tickets get released all the time, most commonly "Production Hold" tickets for outdoor gigs and festivals where they probably have to wait until they know the exact setup on the day before allowing a couple more hundred or thousand in.

In short, there's no real system to it I don't think. It's a 'how long is a piece of string' type question tbh.

Edit that name out because that is an banned event. This is a useful discussion so wouldnt want to see it lost over silly things like that.

The whole ticketmaster putting extra tickets back on thing is of particular interest to us on toutless for obvious reasons. Right now its almost purely word of mouth. Some of the big ones we make a point of checking regularly ourselves but we rely on our users a lot to update the site with info if they hear from someone else or find out themselves theyve gone back on sale. I havent noticed much in the way of a pattern yet but in general if they do go back its during office hours. Also usually the day of the event or the day before are great times to check.

We did something with the Electric Picnic which was to have a dedicated thread that could be bumped whenever the tickets went back on sale and emailed anyone who was subscribed to it when that happened and it was pretty successful I think. I'll have a think about a way of implementing something similar for other gigs without making the place too messy.

Tickets are also released because a certain amount of tickets are allocated for the band's "people", record company, etc and if these aren't taken up, they're released to the general public. It's never publicly announced or else TM's site would probably be even more swamped than it was when they first went on sale. Mr Toast's website is probably the best place to check for re-release updates short of checking TM yourself everyday.

forgot about mentioning the bands name!! ups! if Mr Toasts website did implement some way of sending email notifications for other sold out gigs that'd be sweet!

Ticketmaster is not primarily about MCD, loopholes eh!~

Ticketmaster dont keep any ticket though but if you know someone working there at a box office or anything, they can put some on hold for you if you're very nice!

They have also been known to accept brown envelopes! :P

It's not ticketmaster who hold tickets back and claim an event is 'sold out' in an attempt to generate free hype for their event, it's the promoter that does it.

I'm pretty sick of the practice tbh.

Hi there has anyone heard anything good about viagogo tickets?

It's what they call the "secondary ticket market" or grey market. Unofficial ticket sale so you take your chances as you would have no way of knowing a ticket is genuine.

    Thanks for the info.

Some promoters may hold tickets back so they can release them later on to deflate the black market. I think that only works with the big festivals though.
