First 'Proper' Date Suggestions

Right, of all teh Forums I frequent this oneis probably the sanest - course thats not sayin much for ye lot -

situation has arisen, I met a girl, we got on well in the Pub, things were goin well, and then I got ejected from the premises by a shaven gorilla with no sense of humor. aaaaaanyway she called me the next day, and we found that we got on well together whilst sober too, so now she's said 'Do you want to take me out somewhere next week?'

She's already hinted that goin for dinner is a nono, apparently she thinks it might lead to uncomfortable silences, and if things start goin bad at the appetisers we're stuck there til desert

I'm not a fan of goin Drinkin cos I have a tendency to be very millitant and belligerint towards Bouncers etc when drunk, which is not a good look when yer tryin to be all suave and sophisticated.

I've already suggested a movie to start, but thats at best 3 hours what do I do for the rest of the evenin?

tis in Brisbane, so anyone got any ideas, I've never really done any of the couply/touristy things here so I'm willin to keep an open mind

No, no and no again. How are you meant to get to know someone in a cinema?! Movie dates are the single worst idea ever.

What about the likes of bowling? You don't necessarily have to be good at it (bumpers ftw!), Brisbane alleys are licensed (I've been to two that were anyway) so you can have a quiet bouncer-less drink or two, and you can chat in between turns, i.e. no long periods of conversation but enough to keep you ticking over.

Plus bowling is just good clean fun!

well if the movie is good it gives us something totalk about later, and if its ****e then we can always amuse ourselves in the back row,

theres a bowlin alley 5 doors down from my house so thats not a bad idea

Bowlin is nota bad Idea, theres a bowlin alley down the road from me,what about Lawn Bowls, good or bad idea? Bowls clubs have cheap beer and theres one near her place that does BareFoot bowls on Saturday afternoons

Yeah I did lawn bowls over in Brisbane and thought it would be the goofiest thing ever but it was actually a bit of craic with a few drinks.

Same principles as regular bowling - not too difficult, can have a few scoops, and you can have conversation. Ticks all the boxes really.

Hmm, glad you said no to a movie. It's not a good idea!

Would you go for a walk somewhere nice? It's important to have time to talk **** with someone and get to know them. (It may sound lame but I think it's sweet!).

For my first "official" date with my OH we went for a walk on Dun LAoghaire pier - which turned in to a drink, then dinner and then we went back to my place to watch a movie. You need something that you can cut short if possible but which oyu can elongate in to dinner (she won't be against this if you only decide it on the day cos you're getting on well!)

Is there some nice place you can walk and sit in the sun or something interesting you can go and see that'll give you a chance to talk? If it was Wellington I'd have loads of suggestions!

Go get her Mahatma!! (I am pratically married so love hearing aobut people's first dates and live vicariously through them. I want all the detials!!)

I see what yer sayin tho, but we have been talkin every night for the last week, I realy fel like I'm gettin to know her well by phone and Txt, she called me last night from a family Function up the cost at 1.30 in the mornin and accordin to my phone we talked fot 1 hour and 17 minutes til my battery went dead, she texted me this mornin to apologise cos she forgot I started work at 7 this mornin.

all things goin well on this 'date' how far should I plan into the evenin?

I'm hopin that it will end in me getin invited by her back to her place, I obviously cant invite her back to mine for 2 reasons

1) WAAAAAY Too forward

2) My pad is a ****hole (I actualy christened it D'Ovel)

or at worst I get invited round sometime durin the week for dinner (have to make sure she can cook before I consider a lifetime commitment )

To be honest, I think thats too much for a first date. Thats only my opinion. I think the bowling is a great idea, its good fun, and you can have a laugh with it too. Are there any hobbies you have that you could introduce her to?

My first date with my boyf was the best ever. Real unusual, he brought me down to this garage where all his cars were, and got me to help him fix one. It was obviously real easy stuff he had me doing cause I wouldnt have a clue, but we had a laugh and it was great fun

but anyway these are for future dates, I have to keep this one in the city so as she has the aul opt out clause if things go pearshaped, I seriously dontthinkthey would but from rereading Watnas post I thinkthat its important to not to make her feel like she's trapped with me for any finite length of time and allow the thing to grow organicly.

anyplace that involves driving negates the posibility of enjoyin a few scoops with her, then it'll feel like I'm gettin her drunk, which would be bad, Lawn bowls works cos I can dump the car in their ample carpark and pick it up the next mornin

Well, that went well, Lawn Bowls was not partaken of on this occasion,we just watched it and we were happier to just sitaround inthesmoking section havin a chat, we continued on into town for the evenin and then We went back to her place.

then I took her down to the beach house yesterday and we drove back this mornin, 2 whole days in my company and she dosent hate me yet, this might go Well
