Surround Sound

    great discussion.
i was talking to a friend about this a few months ago, he was suggesting it's probably going to be the way things will go.
But I'm not convinced, for many of the reasons they discussed. We've already had it around for nearly 10 years, quadraphonic sound before that and it still hasn't really taken hold in relation to music.

One point, which they didn't really go into too much, is that the average joes surround speaker set-up consists of 5 small speakers and a sub, if it's a cheap system or poorly set up, music tends to sound pretty crap, it's a lot more forgiving when most of the content is dialouge.
Like good stereo, you need to invest in good equipment to get the best out of it.
It's a lot cheaper to get a good sounding stereo system than it is to get a good sounding 5.1 system.
I think there's probably too many varibles for it to progress from anything but a niche market.
But i'm somewhat biased, i just find 5.1 music too gimicky or something.
