Now that i think of it, some dude said to me ages ago that it depends on which direction the security camera on the back of the simon perry is facing.

It will work if it is facing down towards the gate.

a lot of the card scanners seem on the fritz lately... and some are just old and really particular about how you swipe. actually, anyone know who we contact to sort that out? the cards for about half my class suddenly don't seem to work anymore...

Got an email about it. They are looking into it.

    Here's the email:

    Dear Staff and Students,

As you are all probably well aware, there are currently serious problems
with the swipe access system in College.

I have forwarded on, without delay, to the Director of Buildings Office,
any problems which have been reported to help@cs.tcd.ie.

I was informed yesterday, by the person in Director of Buildings Office, who is dealing with the Swipe Card System that they are actively working on finding a solution, but have not had a good response from the outside company who deal with the system.

I've been told that it is going to take several weeks to sort out the
problems, as it is not just individual cards or doors which are
problematic, but the actual swipe card access system itself.

They are investigating the installation of a new system: the
replacement of the system is a long term project.

So that's why my swipe wasn't working to get into the library. I thought you had to activate it or something.. still, it's working fine in the Sports Centre.

I've used that gate going on 8 years at this stage and never had a problem with it.

I used it on Thursday and it was fine

the card reader can be dodgy on it requiring several swipes.
