I want to teach secondary school

Can anyone give me some advice on getting into secondary level teaching?

I have an honours degree in Science from Trinity, I am currently working in industry but have realised that I should be teaching!

I have 8 years experience teaching swimming to children and adults of all ages, both mainstream and learning disability - does this count for anything??

I'm also really worried that I will find it extremely difficult to get a job even after I'm qualified. I know that I will be a good teacher - it's something I'm passionate about (its a cliche I know but its true) and it's just who I am, but I'm worried that I won't even get a chance to show a school this.

Hope I've provided enough info for someone to give me some advice! Would really appreciate your thoughts on my situation.

Sorry but not really. By all means put it on your CV but it really won't make much of a difference

You should be, there was nothing out there before the budget and even less of nothing since January 2009. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but its a terrible situation.

Sorry to sound blunt but says who? I see people pass through our doors who are passioante about the subject but can't teach it or passionate about kids but can't keep discipline. The only way you will know if you are good at it is to try it. Maybe take a days hols and try subbing in a school, even for free to just see how you get on?

Be careful, everyone wants to go teaching now. But if its for you, then go for it.
P.S. Make sure your degree is recognised for teaching!
