    - my computer wont shut down. it stays on the "shutting down" screen. i've to unplug it so the damned house doesn't burn down
    - media is glitchy. i mean jumpy video, sketchy sound
    - everything is going at snail's pace. which isn't like my comp; she's not even two years old
i ran scans; they found a few little things, which i wiped. but the problems persist
its' really strange coz i havn't even downloaded anything in ages
    what is causing this??

Could be a variety of issues, try downloading ccleaner and cleaning out erroneous registery settings, then update your anti virus and run a full scan
