Car Accident Query

Ok ...not too sure if this is the right section to post this!

I had an accident with a motorcycle a couple of weeks ago...motorcyclist was at fault. He was pretty badly damaged and was carried off in the Ambulance. Before he left I got his Mobile Phone No.

Gardai arrived at the scene and told me to report the accident to my own insurance company. Now as I was not at fault for the accident I will obviously be claiming off the motorcyclist.
Gardai also told me that motorcyclist did not have insurance details or licence with him as they are not obliged to carry same!

I was trying to contact the motorcyclist about a week later to get his insurance details but was not getting through to the number...it was not even going to voicemail!

So I rang my insurance company and they told me to contact the guardai that attended the accident scene as the motorcyclist would have to bring their insurance details to the guarda station within 10 days.
Rang the guarda station and they said that they could not give out that kind of information.

So my question is now...where do I get his insurance details from? There is about €1k damage to my car...now I know thats not a lot but I cannot afford to fix it myself and I don't feel that I should be punished for an accident that I did not cause (my car was stationery when the motorcyclist went into it).

Did you get the name/badge no of one of the gaurds that attended? If so contact him/her directly.

Failing that contact the station. Give them the details, explain what you are looking for and why. Ask for a Garda Abstract Report. This report will have all the information you need.

I dont know why this was refused in the first place. If the Gardai are still budging go back to your insurance company and ask them to follow it up.

as far as i am aware gardai will not give you the details direct. your insurance company will have to request an abstract report from the garda dealing with the accident and then this information is provided to your insurance company via the local superintendents office.

Yes I got the name and badge no of the guards and contacted the station looking for the guard. Guard that answered the phone stated that they could not give out that kind of information.

I will contact my Insurance company and see if they can get the Garda Abstract Report.

Thanks for replies. It extremely frustrating to deal with people when you know that you are getting nowhere.
