Hi folks this is my first post.

I am on the open heo panel, having completed the interviews etc.

They have discussed a vacancy with me and I am currently being vetted by the Central Garda vetting unit.(no skeletons in closet to worry about!:))

Any idea how long this takes?

Could the current economic climate / budget interfere at this stage?

Obviously I am anxious ,having come through a 16 month recruitment process, would hope to get assigned as quickly as possible.

Thanks in advance for any insights.

The Garda vetting process could take anything from 3 weeks to 10 weeks depending how quick they want to fill the post. As far as I know it's just a matter of you passing this vetting test and they will assignment you to the post.

The current economic climate will not affect your application at this stage. Hold on tight. You'll get there eventually.

    Best of luck.

Thanks Hawker, it helps to have a realistic estimate, they said a few weeks which covers a multitude! I will just hang in there with fingers crossed.

    Thanks for the help.

You are going in as a HEO? Wow, go you!!
I am waiting on an interview for CO positions, i was in there as a TCO during the summer, we also got vetted and it took about two weeks!! I bet you will hear in two to three weeks where you are going to be placed! Excellent job, well done!

Thanks, She Devil, I too was a CO back a few years ago then got EO and HEO. I left, had kiddies, did a few years in college doing a degree and then private sector work but when they were recruiting at HEO level decided to give it a go as I did have experience.(and am not as old as all that makes me sound!:D)
The terms and conditions are still excellent in the public service when all is said and done, particularly in the current climate. Best of luck with your own job hunting.

Presumably Garda vetting for jobs in the airport is done by the same unit - in which case it took just 1-2 weeks for me. Only for a 6-month contract though, so it could have been speeded up a little.

Hey - this is my first post too - iam am waiting for the open heo as well...
They have discussed two or three vacancies with me and i sent in my vetting form over 3 weeks ago (Nearly four assuming they sent it off straight away...)
I'm terrified they are going to announce an embargo etc...
Have you heard anything yet--- Public jobs told me it takes about 2-3 weeks but i rang the Central Vetting Unit last week and they said it generally takes 5-6 weeks... would really love to get it sorted!!!

    :confused::confused::confused:

    Hi Lollig,
yes I am in exactly the same boat, I have fingers and everything else I can think of crossed. It sounds like we have to sit tight for another couple of weeks. There is some govt body reporting on public service staffing in Nov, not exactly sure when and I am hoping we might get appointed before there is any fallout from that such as an embargo.
It would be really bad luck to have made it this far just as some one shot the celtic tiger and punctured the global financial bubble!:( Nothing we can do except sit tight.

    I agree completely...
I think we should hear from them before the end of November by my calculations! but as you say hopefully this will be before the recommendations come in ...
If I hear anything i'll let you know here... Be great of you would do the same...? But my understanding is that as soon as the garda vetting thing comes through we're good to go... we should get the formal letter of appt etc. Although it did say on one of the letters from public jobs that they would ask for a reference from our current employer when they were ready to appoint... Hopefully that wont hold it up more...
I was speaking to public jobs earlier and the girl said that this was her first time going through the garda vetting process for applicants so it is a very new process. She had originally thought 2-3 weeks but as i said earlier this is more like 5-6 according to the vettiing unit. so its all new to them as well but the girl thought that because they were actively in the process of appointing (me or yourself) that we shouldn't be affected in her opinion...but she wasn't 100% sure...

So anyway after all that all we can do is sit and wait , fingers legs toes and anything else crossed!;)

Yes definitely I will let you know. She said exactly the same to me, almost word for word. She did say they will need a current employer reference when the clearance comes back but that we should not get one yet. They do not want us to compromise any current role , in case anything went wrong. That is normal policy apparently and not any nervousness about this particular situation.

    Great thanks!!!
We'll just have to wait and see i guess!
Have a lovely weekend and I'll let you know as soon as i get any news!:)

FYI folks,it took 5 weeks exactly for the garda clearance to come through. In fairness, Public appointments service were helpful at every stage, the garda clearance is out of their hands and its just a matter of sitting tight.
