Want to get a first camera, mainly for outdoor photography & trips; likely will be photographing lots of buildings too.

Split between: Is the Canon worth the extra 80euro?
Anything else I should consider (don't want to spend much more than 500 for the whole kit)?

Which camera should I choose? 2 votes

    Canon Powershot SX10 IS

I had an s5000 for four years. Fantastic bridge camera. You won't go wrong with this one.:)

You really need to state which specs & features are imortant to you.

Any Bridge or Compact will have lots of compromises. So you need to decide that yourself.

What range of Focal Length do you need?
Do you need a Flash off camera or only the default one?
Is the ability to shoot RAW required?
What type of viewfinder do you require?
Is there a maximum size requirement?
Is the turn on time or shutter lag an issue?

This list can go on ....

Then you can read the reviews & see which cameras most closely meet your ideal.

Having looked recently for a small camera I think I will buy a Canon G9 as a high spec compact as it ticks a lot of the boxes.

    7dayshop have the Canon G9 & Nikon Coolpix P80 on sale now at £287 & £199 respectively.

The Fuji Finepix range have some really good models too.
