    Hi Folks,

I am looking for opinions & recommendations for a camera for my dept in work. I'm looking for a robust reasonably good camera to take evidence photos of products & components at close & macro range.

The camera needs to be able to get in close and take bright sharp images.

I had shortlisted the Canon G9 and new SX1. Budget of up to €500.
Because of it being a work camera, I won't be buying abroad and will need ease of return in case of any problems.

So what to the experts on here think?

I don't have any experience with neither of those cameras. For macro would could be worth considering Canon 1000D with kit lens, coupling ring and nifty-fifty 1.8.

the g9 is a great camera but the autofocus isn't too good when at very close macro distances.

Thanks for the suggestions. I should point that I don't need extreme close-up. Just tight shots on small (deck of cards size) items.

I want to stick with a point 'n shoot rather that a dslr

Good, we have more precise description now. That should help.

But still, don't ask me, my only digital camera is in my mobile phone :P

Well it's a while since I started this thread, but I ended up getting the SX1.
Hope to try it out at home over the holidays if I can get it out of work for a few days ;)
