Decent clubs in Dublin

Probably a long shot but I'm looking for some decent clubs in Dublin that would be similar to ones that you'd find in central Europe (most notably, Berlin). Having been to some fantastic ones like Berghain I was hoping to find something like that here (although I know there's nothing close to that here!).

I'm clueless when it comes to the scene here in Dublin so any advice is appreciated. Feel free to PM me if you prefer that.

    Thanks!

there are none. either they charge too much, full of dublin knackers or the bouncers are completely brainless/muppets. if i had to pick 1... i couldn't. Your best to catch a late bar and stay in it till half 2. You'll be richer for it

Haha, clubs close at half 2 here? Jesus christ that's bad. I was walking in to places at 5am in Berlin!

Go into McGruders on a Friday night from 11pm and you'll be sorted. Its unlike any other club in Dublin.

    Has to be experienced!!

Tripod Saturday's the best of a very bad bunch, always a good nite there, Fridays are generally too expensive, McGruders is worth a mention too , then you have occasional one off nites elsewhere but generally clubs in Dublin are shocking especially compared to places like Germany, etc, such a pity as Dublin at one time was probably one of the best city's in Europe to go clubbing in years ago.

Having said all of that Bank Holiday Sundays are generally very good in Dublin and there is always lots to choose from but generally it's not half as good as other city's throughout Europe (the 2.30am earlier closing is shocking)

Was in Tripod last night... I haven't been since it was redbox and boy has it gone to the dogs!
Firstly we approached the door and the numskull bouncer says " sorry folks can't let 7 of you in" ! My wife eventually got round the twit and off we went. We're all 30'ish and weren't at all loud going in.. what's the problem!
I noticed immediately the club was empty. Got to the main room which has noticibly changed looks wise and picked up on the tunes from the DJ .. a total cheese extravaganza and the main room dj churned out the same cut up pop remixes all night.. We may as well have been in Tramco ffs! We went upstairs to a more intimate room and the tunes were bit better, more on a prog house thing but the sound levels were way low .. I asked the dj to whack it up .. which he did and we all eventually got into it a bit.
the club is aimed at the boring middle the roads types who accept and enjoy the sh1te being played there.

there are no good clubs here period!!! mcgruders is too small, can have some good music though, nightlife in Dublin in general has gone to the dogs over the last 5 years, better off trying to find a decent pub with your mates and just have a laugh. On another note i am contemplating seting up a night or two in a boozer around the Phibsboro/Glasnevin/drumcondra area, probably kick off with a friday night, ill be bringing Jungle/DnB and more alternative electronic music like AFX,Squarepusher, kraftwek, vibert, yo****oshi etc, not sure if it would be popular though but ill see - if anybody can recommend a boozer available to rent then let me know

Hahaha That made me laugh cause it's so true... It can, rarely, be good if a decent DJ is playing and the crowd is up for it.

    Kennedy's is good aswell.

There must be a market for more of the alternative electronic music in Dublin, I don't really get out these days but kinda assumed somewhere did cater for this - is there nowhere?

The Tripod is my favourite by a long shot. I don't go often but when there's a decent dj playing it's usually there.

As for you being in Berlin, congrats but get a grip. There's nothing here like that and why would you think so unless you're not from here.
From the brilliant warehouses to the late opening hours.... Until our stupid braindead boring bastards in power get a grip we won't be happy anytime soon.

The Twisted Pepper might hit off, it has a few great DJs lined up

Good post here. You named a good few clubs which I'd agree are all pretty nice and good to go to for a good night. Most constructive post so far in the thread :) I'd recommend the same list. Though it does depend on the type of night you're into and what night you're going to each club on too. Find out what's on before going in to be safe and then just stay in the one you like the sound of most on the night :)
