'Peelers with Pizzas!'

    Hi guys!

As most of you know, I'm still in post-primary school (Secondary school) and we had a visit from Lisburn Police (I go to school in Lisburn, although I live in Antrim).

Geogre Ellis, 2 DPP (District Police Partnership) a Neighbor Hood police officer and a sergeant in charge of youth awareness officers or something.

    Anyway, they're called 'Peelers with Pizzas' because they bring us in Pizza's to eat as we sit and listen to them and get to ask them questions about anything to do with policing. Some questions where like;

"Why did I get stopped for having a bottle?"
    "Are Police allowed to..."

Lasted an hour and it was fantastic. Geogre is a super guy! Honestly, he told me to ring his mobile tomorrow and arrange a day next week to spend the day with him, as you can imagine, I'm over the moon!

What do you think of the idea? Do you think bringing Police into Schools & allowing students to question reasons of arrest or general interest of what the PSNI do? Let me know ^^

Hehe. Peeler's with Pizza's. It hardly encourages healthy eating though does it :P

Yeah it's a good idea. It's the people's police service after all and the people have a right to know how it operates (within certain limits). It's good that they're involving school children also. Kids have a right to question the operation and policies of the service as much as adults do. It affects everyone. So, if you've encountered them recently and had your Old English or White Lightening confiscated then you have a right to know why. :D

ha, ha police and a healthy diet! You can see a police presence alright in the local chippy and chinese in my area at teatime! So much for keeping fit and healthy! One rather well made policewoman would have given Anna Nicole Smith or Jordan a run for her money in the chesticle area, how she would be able to pursue anyone on foot with those puppies and after a feed of fish and chips is beyond me!:pac:

Bringing pizzas is a great idea. Everyone knows the pizzas are the main staple diet of teenagers!!!!!!!!

Police going to schools is a time honoured tradition and should be encouraged everywhere. As the OP said it gives the kids a chance to question the officer about policing methods and most importantly why the methods are enforced the way they are. The whole question and answer session is done in a relaxed and familiar situation within the classroom as opposed to out on the street where a youngster may feel if they started asking questions, they may get into trouble with the officer.

Question for ye all: Is there anyone here who when a child was threatened by their parents to behave or they will be brought to the police station?

Nearly every parent does that but its counter-productive as the child then sees the police officer as a threat. The child grows up and while they know that a police officer is no longer a threat, the now adult feels the officer is only someone they can talk to when they are in trouble. Not true at all. A police officer is someone who over time has a wealth of information and it is that information which can help people overcome a problem they have or if they are just seeking advice.

I was ACTUALLY taken! About 20-odd years ago I took a packet of crisps from my teachers handbag and ate them. My mum marched me to the peeler station for a telling off for stealing. Me not knowing she was actually calling in to see my uncle.

It scared the bejeezus outta me, i can tell you! lol
Although i didn't see the need to put it on my vetting form....

The first time I was drunk I was 12 (!!). My ma caught me and phoned the cops lol. She maintains that she was only trying to find out who purchased the alcohol for me. That however is a secret I will take to my grave.... but it was my cousin Jim.

my mum was a station assistant in the mainland, we were always at her work, real eye opener that was! i was stunned that some of the folk supposedly upholding the law managed to get in! watching telly tubbies etc during their meal breaks, though they were male so i suppose that explains it all!:D it did have it's perks though, we got taken water skiing, bowling, ice skating very cool! then i followed in her footsteps and got a civvy job with a force in scotland, worked with a bunch of nutters! great craic though!
