Hidden Folders

    Hi Guys,

    Ive recently discovered the following folders on my USB drive, to the best of my knowledge they are hidden folders put there by OS-X. I have a Mac Mini and an XP machine. The most annoying thing is that the .Trashes folder is taking up half the drive but it appears to be empty. The only way to free space is it delete the folder (in windows). Why is it doing this and how can I turn it off. Any help welcome :-)

    The .Trashes folder should not be taking up so much space if you are emptying it frequently - whenever you empty "Trash" on Mac OS X with the USB drive connected, it should clear the files from it as well.

    As to how to not even create the files in the first place, I'm sure there's some command line voodoo to do it but I don't know what it is - though I'm sure a few people here probably do. The easiest way to do it though is use the preference pane "Blue Harvest":

    It's not free, but costs under a tenner and makes life much easier if you are really annoyed by the Mac OS files when using your USB drive on Windows systems...
