So there's me thinking. our little corner of boards (ie here) as been a bit quite lately. Instead of trying to kick off another fourm based RPG game why dont we try something a little different?

Would anyone be interested in a game of Mafia??

Its been called a few things in its time, Mafia, Werewolf, Assassin but it all amounts to the same thing

Here is a wiki article about the game

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_village_murder_mystery_game

The above article is actually for a face to face game so we'll have to modify if a bit but You'll get the drift.

I'd hopefully be aiming to get at around the 10 - 15 people mark in order to play a good game

    What do people think? .

Sounds like fun. did this take off at all?

I've played this as Werewolf quite a bit. Really have to have the special characters in though for it to be fun

    I'm afraid it didn't

No one really seems to pop in here anymore might post another thread out in the main forum see does anyone else want to play. I played this game as mafia quite a bit online and only once at lepracon as werewolves.

It really is a fun game. Depending on numbers would depend on the amount of special characters in the game.

Well, people do pop in and are interested in playing. Gven the track record of the previous games you can't blame them for being very reluctant before investing time again in a game just to see it die.

Perhaps you should look at some other mechanism for playing the games like openRPG or a browser based solution. While its not quite the same we've played a number of strategy games using a mixture of thick clients with forum attachments and full php solutions. I'm sure the same could/can be done here.

Thats what i meant, the games themselves start off fine and then after a few weeks players for what ever reason cannot post as often as they'd like too and the game fizzles and dies. Most forum RPG's or Play by Email games go this route.

Now that i have my broadband fixed i can play anytime/anyday (and i have done in the past) I'm always around. Sarky and myself have ran several successful forum games in the past on this very site. I've said it before and i'll say it again its the players that keep a game alive. The more you post the more active a game will be.

What Rev Said is actually a really really good idea. I wouldn't have though of that, The only problem is that I wouldn't be able to play in work (my Operating system is solaris - none of yer fancy smanchy microsoft based stuff for me ;) ) its locked down and i very much doubt i could get it working.

But we could look into a real time based way of playing a game with people. and mafia is the perfect game to try it out with. Its a very very quick game. a 12 player game usually lasts about 16 turns (8 in game days) 16 turns you could push out in an hour of real time playing (or a week on a forum)

I'll have a gander around and see what i can find out.

I'm always up for a game if other people are too.

Why don't we just finish the SLA game, if interest still exists to do so.

True there is SLA, i'll PM the players involved and see if they want to res the game. I'd most certainly DM it, And if memory serves you were in the middle of a firefight too!
