THANK YOU, to all bioware staff who were working on Mass effect. You really pulled that one out!

I wount go in to review or something. i will just say this one: In last 6 years of gaming only 1 game gave me that good old feeling of: I MUST PLAY MORE TO FIND OUT WHATS NEXT!. That game was Bioshock.

I had lost faith in to gaming industry after seeing poor quality titles one after anather, which just cant keep mine attention more then for 2 hours.
After finishing 13 hours shift i was coming home and playing mass effect for anather 4 hours until i just drop dead sleep :D. The developers who can make such game, deserves some respect.

On behalf of Bioware, you're welcome.

excellent game alright, after I'd got over the initial disapointment of sub standard graphics due to it being a port it was one of the most enjoyable I've played in quite some time.

Really need to work on their draconian security measures though, great way to drive gamers away.

I'd be extra thankful to Bioware if they released the KOTOR MMO on 360!

I agree i only picked up Mass Effect a month ago and i played it straight for 4 hours non stop it was that good. Not many games have that "magic". Its a game that you must get to end of its a "Must Finish" game and there aint many of them around:) I think the last time i played such a game was maybe "Bioshock,Half-Life 2 and possably STALKER:SOC"

I'd be even more thankful if they dropped the MMO aspect. Didn't rate Mass Effect that much, felt that in comparison to KOTOR and the Baldur's Gate series it was a fairly shallow experience. Far, far too short as well.

I thought Mass Effect was pretty poor really. Great story telling, absolutely terrible combat and the slowest elevators ever to grace a game.....

I tried to like it (like that bread with seeds in it) but it just wasn't happening.

Yeah those lifts were sooo longggg the one in the citdel going down to C-Sec was like a good minute plus you couldnt move your character or so anything really really boring.

i must agree, its been a few years since i got sucked into a single player rpg like mass effect, although it has some problems. Repetitive side-missions, combat a bit cumbersome at times, emm elevators, yes.
Usually in rpgs i dont want to read or listen to all the lore but i loved all the lore in this probably coz im sick of reading about some elven story about some castles and ****

i am not irish m8, i am lithuanian, so mine english is really not that good. There will be allways atleast someone to trash me for that. i hate english teachers in forums :(.

And yes, mass effect is not perfect game, it has its ups and downs. But it has that worm feeling that just makes you hook on it and not let go. i really thankfull to bioware to let me experience this once more.

And yeah, some one said right here, kind of sick of all those elfs and dwarfs.

Yeah dude - it was a seriously class game, I loved it too - the story unfolds VERY interestingly! my favourite bit was (warning spoiler)
the first time you speak to the reaver, whoa what an EVIL emotionless sounding voice! sent a shiver up my back!! :)

Good game even though the gaming model seemed identical to KOTOR. Pity they are joining the MMO bandwagon. Where all the cash is these days I suppose.

Just pick on the Dubs who type "I seen". I can accept someone saying it but I'll never get over the fact that people will type it. You'll be sure it's not a non-national but at the same time I suppose you can never be certain it's their first language even if they are Irish.

I do love these forums. Number of pricks here is minimum. So even with mine chopped english i dont get flammed :D .

Hehe no worries i can see the funny side of it after me pointing it out, but when i see people adding nothing to a thread but pointing out grammer mistakes it gets me a little peeved.

Boards.ie is really bad for it aswell, must be something to do with the irish.

The only game by bioware i've liked was the Sonic RPG for the DS.

Telling Amy Rose that she never deserved to be happy was the best thing ever. Also, it didn't have their shitty Good/Evil morality system where your choices are only ever one of three really obvious ones

    NPC: HELP ME!

A: I'll help because i'm good and that's what good people do they help, i'm ohh so good and please tell me what a good boy i am

B: I'll help you, but gimme money, for i am the morally ambigious character. Like Hans Solo but without the charm. Also, money. now.

C: DIE AWHAHAHARGLEBLARGLE BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD!

Loved Mass Effect apart from the stupid elevators and ever worse, the most retarded land vehicle controls ever conceived of in a computer game. The Lightcycles in Tron had better controls.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 605 ✭✭✭ghouldaddy07

loved everything about mass effect with the exception of the mako.

The main story was far to short though it could of used another two planets similar to noveria.

The games soundtrack was a highpoint it really added to the atmosphere.

hopfully mass effect two will be out in 3 years. :)

This made me laugh. Have some thanks.

I've been meaning to pick up Mass Effect for ages and seeing as I just got my old job back I guess it's finally time. Just as soon as I find the cheapest copy. :)
I'm happy to see there is some genuine love for the game. It doesn't need to be perfect. Just enjoyable. And it will help pass the time until Fable 2 comes down a bit.

Really liked some parts of Mass Effect (combat did a good job of combining stat gameplay and real time) but other bits were pretty annoying: the aforementioned never ending elevators, repetitive side quests, bad storytelling at times (the optional 'romance' is of George Lucas quality). But it is a very solid RPG, although it suffers from a blander universe and mythology than Knights of the Old Republic (for pretty obvious reasons!).

The elevators wouldnt have been so bad of they had added more party dialogue into them. Had a few between Ash and Raidin (not the thunder god, the other one), but there was no where near enough.

Was definatly my game of the year though. Absolutly loved it.

few things I'd forgotten to mention, yeah side quests did become a grind as every building/mine/ship had the exact same interior. That and the controls on the mako! Lifts were another one, I started at least in the citadel to avoid where possible and take the express, much quicker.

I still for some reason found it a great game, had that unique playability that made you overlook it's faults. Agree with the main story could have been longer though.

And what the hell is the optional romance? forgot I saw a mention of that on some forum when I started playing, seem to have totally missed it. Was it with the courtesan?

I think there are a few of the characters you can woo. My character ended up doing the deed with Ashley,
concluding with a sex scene that would have been considered tame in the 1950s :pac:
. But apart from a couple of forced conversations, its a pretty brief and pointless subplot.

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 23,282 Mod ✭✭✭✭Kiith

I banged Liara (blue alien ass ftw!), and had pretty much the same sex scene. Very tame, without showing much of anything. Dont know why people seemed to be shocked by it, although people are stupid, so i guess it makes sense.

And then Fox went and made complete fools of themselves over the sex scene. I would have laughed if they hadnt been such ****ing idiots about it. The "expert" they had later admitted that she hadnt even played the game. gg Fox.

Not to sound too negative (:D)... but to reiterate what I said when we originally discussed the game:

The handling/shooting of the Mako is just plain wrong. Navigating through the buy/sell items screen is awful. Side quests feel too far removed from the main story (which is too short). The dialogue response trees are too shallow - and often the response you select and what Shepard says seem very different. The last battle is annoying. Some of the classes are nigh impossible to enjoy the game with.

The score is cool and the story is interesting. The combat, while awful at the start, improves later.

Agreed with a lot of this and what has been said before. Also you could not skip the dialogue so if you got killed and had not saved you were forced to reread it. I had some conversations with Liaras mother over and over cause I skipped all the side missions and went straight to that planet.

Overall though with all its flaws it was still great. Thanks also from me to them. I will not be buying the MMORPG as I dont have the time so I hope KOTOR3 has a single player game. KOTOR with all its flaws is one of my favourite games of all time.

Thought it was a big bag of meh tbh

never finished it, I enjoyed it but eventually its flaws drove me away.

I am surprised so many people liked it, especially when they say "I really liked Mass Effect but here's a list as long as my arm with what's wrong with it"

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,375 ✭✭✭kmick

It had some flaws agreed. But I am currently playing Oblivion and compared to that it is a much more atmospheric and enjoyable.

well i was not paying attention to those things, its just this game had that magic to hook you up to controller. You allways whanted to know: what will happen next!

There is so many games out there, with flathless gameplay, no elevators ( thought they were made instad of loading window). But do they have that magic? Not alot in past 5-6 years... ( bioshock exeption)

Like assasins creed has everything allmoust perfect, but i cant be arsed to finish it after third gay..... Just..... does not make me whant to play it...

Anyway, i did love it, but you cant argue about taste :D. I said thank you, and i am not regret it, even if gameplay was not perfect.

p.s. soundtrack really helped alot for that game. Best sci-fi soundtrack so far :D

But tbh i never payed much attention to it... i only realised that they small bit longer then usuall, only from here :)

I thought Mass Effect was very very far from Bioware's best (in fact it was their worst game of the ones I've played) - that's not to say it's a bad game though, it still did things that no other developer ever seems to try to do.

It's just a pity that it was so short, and even while being short a very large percentage of it was padding, by which I mean the average combat and the absolutely horrible Mako sections. It was at it's best by far when presenting the player with multiple options and ways of completing quests or branching dialogue trees. The best part of the game really was the beginning on the citadel, when there were tons of side quests like that. Once you went exploring things went downhill to a large extent.
