Recommend a Oil conventional condensing boiler

    Folks,

My parents have an old conventional oil boiler for almost 30 years. It packed in at the weekend.

They spoke to the SEI who recommended a condensing boiler. Their trusted plumber has recommended a conventional non-condensing boiler because he says they give trouble.

They were recommended a Worcestor Greenstar condensing boiler with a 90.7% rating.

Any advice? The condensing boiler does appear to be the way to go but does the cost of maintenance outweigh the savings in efficiency?

They are heating 12 but want to be able to support up to 15 radiators.

One other question, there is gas in the area. Is Gas cheaper than Oil?

On the SEI website there are far fewer oil burners than Gas.

Yea, An ordinary Grant or Firebird will be hugely more efficient than the 30 year old one.
