Help me decide which game

First off, my favourite games on the PS3 are COD4, Drakes Fortune and Resistance so that should give you an idea of where my interests lie.

There is finally a mini avalanche of good games coming out on the PS3 but funds are short so I'd appreciate if someone could point me towards a really good game (I also want to avoid buying another turkey like Haze and Turok). Ok so bearing in mind that some of these aren't on sale yet, which one would you recommend:-

Far Cry 2 - I have the original on pc and love it but as far as I know, this game has nothing to do with the first which is a shame.

Bioshock - played the demo and was impressed but its similar to DOOM 3 with the dark corridors and enemies hopping out at you from dark corners. Would this get repetitive like DOOM which bored me after a while.

Dead Space - its getting great reviews but is it another dark and dreary DOOM clone on a spaceship?

Resistance 2 - trailer looks great and visuals have improved a lot 2 years on but is it worth waiting for?

COD World at War - I'm very annoyed that they have gone back to WW2 and that Treyarch are in charge of production as I think COD3 was sh!te. However, is it worth buying or is it a let down after COD4.

Bad Company - out a while now but I wasn't too impressed by the graphics in the demo but my brother thinks its on a par with COD4 - blasphemous I know!!

    Any other options?

    Thanks

While I prefer FPS games on the PC, I am getting [it was posted by PLAY.com yesterday! :D] Far Cry 2 for the PS3. Why? Because my PC is borked and it seems to be the better FPS coming to the PS3 this Christmas.

Other options? Mirror's Edge may be worth a look. LBP will be a big buy for me, but from your preferences, I don't know if you'd like it. Same with Motorstorm 2 and Guitar Hero WT...

Far Cry 2 does look good but I don't know the back story - I don't suppose there's more mutants to kill?

Post back when you play it and let me know if its worth the cash thanks.

It has nothing to do with Far Cry, plot-wise. From what I have read elsewhere, Ubisoft are avoiding any sort of supernatural elements. The story appears to revolve around the Jackel, an arms dealer who is fueling a civil war from behind the scenes and your job is to find and kill him.

As soon as I have played it some, I will weigh in.

Far Cry 2 – I have this on order and I am impressed with the videos I have seen so far. It also has a map maker which looks like lots of fun ( I love building things so I think ill get lost in this for weeks )
I have not played it so below is based on what I have read/been told.

1st player is 40-100 hours depending on how much of the side missions you want to do and multiplayer is meant to be very good of course making your own maps means you don’t have to wait and buy new maps like in COD4.

Here is a vid on the map maker watch where he drops into the level he is making I think it looks great. http://uk.gamespot.com/pc/action/farcry2/video/6199163/tgs-2008-far-cry-2-video-feature-2009?hd=1

Bioshock – Had it on 360 and liked it I would recommend it but maybe not this month if you can only get 1 game. It didn’t take me long to finish. Maybe next time there is a month or two without any new games coming out it could be picked up on the cheap.

Dead Space – Got this Monday from the US and I’m really enjoying it its 3rd person so a little different from COD4 and its spooky and gory.

Resistance 2 – I haven’t played any of this not even a demo or beta so I cant say but its not out until Nov. so you could always get a different game now and trade it in when Res 2 gets here.

COD World at War – Playing the Beta on 360 at the moment and im not sure about it, it doesn’t look as nice as COD4 imo. I think it looks more like COD3 the guns and even your hand just doesn’t look as real as they did in COD4 of course the weapons are all WW2. One moment I’m enjoying it then the next I really hate it. I think the online co-op could be good fun though.

Bad Company – This is a no for me I had it but just didn’t like it I found the 1 player missions too easy and multiplayer maps had me running for ages then getting shot then starting miles back again and frustrated me terribly. But lots of people enjoyed it, it just didn’t sit well with me.[
I would say if you want to buy this Friday far cry 2 or dead space would be the best bets or wait for resistance 2 in Nov. Personally I would get far cry Friday then you can trade it for res 2 in Nov. when its out.

Hey man - of the games I haven't played there I am most interested in Far Cry 2 - love that sort of shooter. Of the games I have played (have xbox and ps3) - I would SERIOUSLY recommend Bioshock. In fact I would recommend it over nearly ANY shooter - it's one of the most fun, interesting shooters I've played since HL1 came out on the pc years back. The set pieces look amazing, the weapons and charachters are well done as is the story, it's brutally addictive. My fiancee doesn't play games THAT often, but she played Bioschock RIGHT through (and when she does play games, she generally doesn't like FPS games..). It takes a decent amout of time to beat as well. That being said I have heard on review that Far Cry 2 is quite a long game for a shooter, so if you want it to last a long time Far Cry might be the way to go.. Also I played and beat Bad Company - It's a fun game, quite addictive and fun, but it's relatively short - I didn't really like the online side of it though (whereas I used to love online battlefield 2/1942/desert combat mod).

Of the list you gave Resistance 2 will probably be the best, based on what I'v heard from previews and people in the beta. Still have to wait for full reviews though. Second choice would be Bioshock.

But have you considered Little Big Planet? It's a different genre but it's the best game to come out in years and it will have a lot of longevity.

I haven't got the patience for playing anything that doesn't involve combat, and I mean instant combat, not the strategy games that involve building bases, getting resources etc. Therefore Little Big Planet wouldn't appeal to me, neither would sports games, racing games etc.

Far Cry 2 is looking like the one to get although I can't see it having the same wow factor that the original Far Cry had. The graphics in that game were stunning at the time (1995 I think it was) and the combat and story line were brilliant, even if it did get a little silly towards the end. I wonder if the new game will have any notable feature or if it will be forgotten within 6 months.
