    Hi Everyone!
Myself and the hubby have been ttc for ten months now! have been doing everything by the book! Never thought id be fed up of nookie!:D
Was jus wondering at what point do you seek medical assistance if things arent going to plan? Ive heard that doctors wont even entertain you until you ve trying two years! Is this true?
What are the first steps and what tests are carried out?
    Thanx!

Unless you are older or have known medical issues, yes many doctors won't do much until you have had well tiemd intercourse unsuccessfully for a year. But your GP can order basic bloods (day 3 and 7 days past ovulation), and a semen analysis for your husband, which will give you a basic idea of fertility. You can also ask for a referal to a fertility clinic now- if the GP refuses, point out that it will take several months until you get the appointment with the clinic!

We were young when we started TTC so we waited till 2 years had passed unsuccessfully. I then got a referral to an OBGYN and my next step is going to be a fertility clinic in 09 if we're not successful with the treatments at the moment. I think the general rule if you're under 35 is a year and over 35 is 6 months trying unsuccessfully. I can say though that my doctor was suggesting from after 1 year of trying that she'd be happy to refer me. I was 23 at the time. HAve a chat to your GP and s/he might be more than happy to help or offer suggestions.

I know it really scary but I really think the sooner you find out if there is a problem the better! I not only to get things moving quicker but for you own peace of mind! Its hard enough waiting for each month!!

It depends on the clinic you attend, The Kilkenny Clinic at the moment only takes about a week for a appointment once you have a letter of referral from you GP.
