Lads i'm on the verge of buying a house in a estate in my local town but am worried about my springer with the small yard. Will it affect his ability to hunt, and would the move affect him? He's two year old and lives in my folks (aswel) and has lots of space to roam around.

My lad is in a tiny yard and is mad to hunt....keep him exercised in the off season and im sure he will be fine. I know springers that are kept in 10x10 foot kennels and hunt good...Exercise is the key here.... I take mine to the river in town for a swim and to chase the ducks around..

You should have no problem. I think gun dogs are more placid and better behaved than most dogs. I've three big dogs in a run that's only about 15' x 8' - excluding their sleeping quarters and they have no problem. You wouldn't hear a peep out of them.

As dwighet says, exercise is the key. The only possible problem is boredom if you only have one dog!

Regarding their hunting abilities - it doesn't interfere in the least. Look at any professional kennel, and the dogs are usually kept in relatively small runs.
