Question regarding flight seating...

    Hey people :)

Just a quick question. This never bothered me before on any hols but this year, seeing as I'm going with the missus I'm wondering how would I go about booking a window seat and two people sitting together on the plane flight? She is a nervous flier and maintains that she would be more comfortable (consolable?) sitting beside me and seeing out the window.

Would this be done when checking in? Is there a charge? Would I have to be early? Or is it just down to luck?

I did email Dublin Airport a week ago asking the same question but they never replied so...

    Thanks in advance :)

Nothing to do with the airport, so no surprise they didn't reply ;)

Which airline are you flying, and where to? Policies vary by airline :)

I think it depends on who you are flying with. If it is with Aer Lingus, you can choose where you sit when self checking in at the Airport.

If it is Ryanair, best to buy priority boarding and get on the plane before anyone who has not purchased this and choose whicever seat you want.

Normally I always ask for a window seat and provided you check in relitively (SP?) early, you will more than likely get this.

Check with what airline you are flying with. Some of them ask if you want to book a seat in advance anyway.

    Fast reply :)

I'm flying with Primera Jetx with Budget Travel and going to Lanzarote.
    Should I contact them?

Only have experience with a package holiday as it comes to booking seats next to my gf.
You pay, you sit next to each other. But they also see sitting on either side of the footpath as sitting next toe each other (on planes where you have rows of 3 seats on each side of the plane).
So although you can book seats next to each other in general, this doesnt guarantee you a window seat.

If you just book a flight with Aer Lingus, you can pick exactly the seats you want during your on line booking.
With Ryanair it is simple. First come, first served.

    Hope this helps... a bit

Just see you mentioned Budget. For them the first part of my reply applies.

Yes, I'd recommend contacting them, and asking for a window seat. I don't think you can officially chose your seat as budget travel uses p. charter planes in general but I'm sure they'll do their best to help ye out.

    Good luck with the travels!

Hmmm strange... Dublin Airport just replied to my email two minutes ago?

Thanks to all. I'll be in touch with Budget Travel and the airline.
The "thanks" are for the fairly fast responses. :)

i was just on the AL site booking for a friend to fly from Paris. the site kept prompting to book a seat but when I did it added at least 3€ per trip.

    is this right ?

Yes, AL now wharge 3 quid on each leg of a flight, as standard.

RA also charge for priority boarding which is the same as chosing your seat since there are no assigned seats on RA flights.

Airlines are becoming stingy, we all better get used to it!

Aer Lingus give you the option at the end to continue to book your sets, however it is expensive and in the small print it says that it cannot guarantee the seats on the day of the flight.

If you did not book seats it should not have charged you €3 per trip. I would check it out.
