ROH: Supercard Of Honor III (non spoiler thread)

I know there is an ROH thread and a last match event thread, but I think this event needs its own thread. I also realise that people may not have seen it yet, so am not going to post any results here, and as I am saying to those who may not be aware to buy it, it would be unfair to tell them who wins etc.

I have only been dipping in and out of ROH for about the last year, and alot of what I have seen was quite underwhelming, namely GBH weekend featuring Misawa, Survival Of The Fittest, Take No Prisoners and Double Feature. The patience was running thin with poor show after poor show. Finally I got to the Orlando Wrestlemania weekend, and watched Dragongate Challenge II, which I have mentioned in another thread. Just got finished watching SCOH III, and am completely blown away by it.

The card from bottom to top looks exciting. The opener between Go Shiosaki and Delirious is brilliant. As good an opener as you will see in ROH. It goes from Delirious' usual comedy schtick, which Go helps along nicely, to some fantastic mat wrestling. Sets the pace nicely for whats to come.

Next up is the one match I thought would blow - The YRR Vs Dingo, Alex Payne and Bushwacker Luke! While not a masterpiece, it is a fun match which has its nice nostalgia feel to it with Luke in the ring. I also must point out, I do not hate The YRR.

Unbelievably, my favourite match of the night was Roderick Strong Vs Erick Stevens. Thing is, I hated this feud all along, so for this to be so good amazed me. Nothing fancy, just a good old fashioned brawl which I totally got into. The moROHns in attendence did annoy me during the match alright, but thats the tiniest of complaints.

Kel Steenerico Vs BB Huk & Shingo was your predictable fast paced spot fest, but was absolutely absorbing. I have seen very little of BB Hulk, but so far so good. The little dance off at the start was quite funny also.

My second favourite match of the night then was The Briscos Vs Age Of The Fall featuring Jimmy Jacobs & Tyler Black. I had grown a tad tired of the Briscoes very repetitive style of match where it was just built up to flurriez of MOVEZ and Flipz, but this showed a good side of the Briscoes I did not know they had, and that is they are great brawlers. So is Jimmy Jacobs. There was perhaps a kick out too many in this, but the ending is a joy to behold.

Nigel Vs Aries was a great affair, and would have been the best match of the night on pretty much any other card. I often complaiened of Aries lack of selling ability, but he actually did a good job here. In fact, this match told a great story, got the two competitors over excellently, and if I have a complaint at all, is that it ran a touch short at around 25 minutes.

Typhoon (CIMA, Dragon Kid, & Ryo Saito) vs. Muscle Outlawz(Naruki Doi, Masato Yoshino & Genki Horiguchi). The annual Dragongate 6 man did not fail to deliver yet again. This one was less an exhibition this time, as I felt the previous two kind of were, but it actually seemed to have legitimate storyline purpose to it, and they animosities felt more real than previous affairs. Again, this was your typical high octane revelry which pretty much would have you gripped for the duration. Only downside is due to my own lack of concentration I ahve no idea what the storyline going into this was, but I get the idea that Genki Horiguchi is a bad ass heel these days.

    Do buy this DVD if...
...You would like to see an ew promotion which is more workrate based than the big american 2.
...You want to get back into watching ROH
    ...You like cruiserweight wrestling

Do NOT buy this DVD if...
    ...You just don't like ROH
...You only like the WWE style
...selling is a pre requisite for your enjoyment of a match (I should try explain that line better, but my words are failing me at this time).

For me, this is the best ROH release since Good Times Great Memories, and would almost certaionly be in my top 10 ROH shows ever.

Without wanting to come across as a fanbiy schill for the company, I can only say Buy it.

A good reason for me. I've missed their last two or three PPVs and I haven't seen any other shows since the start of the year. I've got to go buy a few DVDs when they have a sale on

Brilliant show, best I've seen all year from any promotion anywhere, though I'm eagerly awaiting the latest New Japan show.

ROH has the finest tag division in North America, bar none.

You should see the Fight Without Honor these two had at Respect is Earned 2... i thought it was a great way to end the rivalry... and it really helped restore the umm.. epicness of that gimmick.
Stevens match at Proving Ground against Aries was also bloody fantastic in my book.

I'd totally recommend this show too.. I'd have it as their best of the year thus far.
