I got this flickr mail and I'm not sure what to do with it, should I charge something or let it be ? Personally I'm thinking of giving it away for free.
Sorry to bother you, but I seen with interest the brilliant
photographs you have posted on flickr of the plane crash
near Dunshaughlin. I'm from the company **** Plant Hire
that moved the helicopter from the crash site and would
love to be able to reproduce one of them. Would that be
    possible at all?

I think that the photo they was is a photo of a "big machine" lifting a helicopter crash.

I'd ask what they want to use it for. If it's for advertising then a charge would be appropriate (even a small charge). If it's just to hang in their office, then that's another issue.

I always feel it's better to charge something than nothing. It really doesn't have to be much, €10 is better than nothing. It's not about the money, it's about the impression.

I'm assuming it didn't cost you anything to take(?) So if reasonably disposed towards their request, you might ask to be credited on any use of it or a derivative - publicity can often work well for you in such situations.

    Charge!!!

It's for commercial purposes, therefore I personally would charge them for it..

Depends what theyre gonna do with it dude.

If theyre gonna print it and put it on an office wall then you arent gonna get much credit for it are you?
Plus, would you normally charge someone for a print to put on there wall?

If its for commercial purposes then yes you should charge them.

(or maybe ask for a JCB for a day :D)

I'd charge, amount depending on usage. You've got a valuable photo here in the sense no else has it and it can't be re-shot.

I wouldn't have posted the company name on here, though.

Guess I have to find out where they plan to use it, thanks all.

I dont see why you wouldnt charge for it. Its your work and they are a business..

Depending on what they want to use it for, if its a print, charge them for a print... BUT if they want to use it and re-use it then thats a different story and your charges should reflect this..

Its like anything, they will benefit from using it and so should you.. Good luck

They have done the right thing to actually contact you. Many companies would just download the image & use it.

If it were me, I would allow them to use the specified image for non-comercial applications. If they were wanting it for commercial use then I would charge according to how they plan to use it.

Definitely charge them for it. How much depends on the usage, but even if they just want to hang it on the office wall money should change hands.

    Cheers,
    Peter

    Charge.

You don't think for one minute that they moved the aircraft for free, so definately charge.

You could always offer to supply a framed print (on pro paper with the usual copyright info on the back) for a reasonable cost.

I wouldn't be supplying an electronic copy without a written agreement stating how the image may be used in place first though.
