    Well lads,

Unfortunatly like alot of you out there, ive been put on a 3 day week. So im asking if any of you have considered going abroad? Where is the best place to go??

The UK seems to be in as bad a situation as us here in Ireland. The only other places ive heard people talking about are Australia and Dubai. Any of you ever worked out there? Is it all its made up to be??

Sorry about your news jonny, these are tough times. If I was still single, I'd be on a plane to Australia. I've been there a couple of times and while I wasn't working, I saw enough to go back.

    Sorry to hear that jonny.
There are an awful lot of people gone or going to Australia. I've a friend went last month, met up with 4 of his mates and having the time of his life. He's a carpenter on very good money.
Go for a year, what have you got to loose?

If I was under 30 and single I'd be on a plane. Brother-in-law is leaving in Jan. 09 for Australia, with his wife and 2 kids!
I reckon the dole figures would be alot worse if so many hadn't gone to Australia.

If I was young free and single I'd be gone in the morning somewhere nice and sunny, however as I'm not its a different kettle of fish. I did look into Australia earlier in the year (just in case!!) and discovered that as Arch Tech's are not on the skilled migrant visa list (Architects & Architects Assistants Only) we have to get a sponsered visa, ie from a job first, no problem with that you say, all the Irish recruitment agencies are advertising Austrialian jobs, the down side is when you have children you are not entitiled to free education for your kids for two years on a sponsered visa so beware!!!

Dubai is also supposed to be very very expensive!!

This is likely due to the fact that ATs might not exist in Oz.
Look into the definition of Architects and Arch assistants, it might be flexible enough

Oz is a bit far for me but I think I could manage france. I have no idea what the pay is like, dont know the regs or standard building systems, employment status or standard wages but the weather is good, the wine cheap, good food, short flight home and the language is basic enough. Right now I'm more interrested in keeping the job I have than making lots of money.

Im not long in Perth, Australia. Prospects here are alot better then home. Did a few days temping in an office. Glad I up and left because the opportunities at home were rare. A friend of mine was in Brisbane and came home in may but wishes he was back out here. Hopefully I'll get a few interviews soon if not I'll be off to the east coast and try there. From what I hear back home its just more cut-backs in offices with a few going under. I'd recommend taking the plunge if its possible. I was fortunate no debt and no ties as such and still young enough

I know you are still waiting for something more permanent/full time but I think you have made the right move.
