college courses mess!!!

ok so i just want some independent opinions on this!
i was offered Accounting in CIT and Business Studies in UL through the CAO in 2007. it was really hard to choose so i went with accounting in CIT as i knew Cork better and had more friends going there!
anyway i never really settled in and was constantly saying "what if i went to UL"....So eventually i was able to transfer to UL but i didnt go through with it in the end.
i stayed in CIT for the year anyway. i hated my course and the college. i think i wanted something better like UCC. the social life was great altogether though!
I loved accounting in school and it really motivated me but this wasnt enough. i did absolutely horrible in my exams ( i always do good in exams).
i could of gone to UL again this year but i didnt. ii dont know why....could be because i dont know the place....less friends down there!
im not sure what the hell i want so im taking a year out anyway!

well...what's your question? If you don't know what you want then it's fair enough to take a year out... but what are you actually asking?

    Sorry couldn't resist.

They'd be released in mid-ish August when the first round offers are out.

Anyone who doesn't know when the CAO points come out should not be doing their Leaving Cert!
And also it has nothing to do with my original posting!
so go talk about it somewhere else!

if u hadnt noticed your thread hasnt generated a huge pile of replies.

nd why would dey tell us da points afterv we send in our cao

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 86 ✭✭yay_for_summer

Because the points depend on the demand for the various courses. This is all in the CAO handbook.

well i just want yer opinions on it like.
I dont know why I cant just decide what i want to do...or where i want to go!
I always wanted to do Accounting and then everything went wrong after 2 months. I put it down to a number of factors the main one being I never wanted to go to CIT.
But its like im incapable of making a decision about the whole thing. its been a year now and i still don't know what to do.

You'd get to know the place and people though, loads of people do that every year. It sounds like you know what you want but you're just putting it off.

i think if you want to go to UL then go to UL. if you still dont like the course after a year then dont continue with it. after all first year should be the easiest no? im in this situation myself. but the degree is grand. its sort of the opposite for me. i know no one in my college. yet they all know each other so im sorta in the dark. but ye id do whatever you feel like doin. its better to regret doin somethin then regret not doing it. at least you can say you tried when your older. i know this all sounds a little overused and loads have said it before but hey if its what i think then its what i think. good luck with whatever ya choose to do anyways. im sure itll work out for the best :)

People from cork, banned for overuse of the word like. What is that about. I mean really? You really have to type it too?

Make an appointment with one of the college counsellors. They are there to help people like you, confused, worried and not sure what to do.
Im also in a mess, im going to see a college counsellor. plus its free, use it!

I went to the one in college a few times but found her unhelpful.
All she did was listen, barely had an opinion. I'm looking around now for an independent careers guidance councellor...hard enough to find one!

Thanks but I don't think I can waste 4 grand on a course and then say it's not for me. Its january now and I still don't know what I am going to do!
Eventually I will have to pick one as I truely hate this working non-student lifestyle! Any ideas how to pick between them?
