Was at the Kildare Nationalist Finals yesterday. Got a few pretty good shots. Senior Final between Celbridge & Sarsfield...

    And this one...

The final ended in a draw.

This was from the Junior Final. Athy beat Sarsfield - this is an Athy player after the final whistle...

Thought it was a very touching moment.

    The last one is good.
Don't be afraid to get right up to the players though.

It should be easy enough to clone out the stuff along the top of the frame.

    Thanks.

I was about to run onto the pitch when I saw this lad and quickly ran off a few shots of him.

Was talking to a pro photographer there and will hopefully be subbing for him in the near future so will get to a lot more matches (will also get to use some 'real' sports lenses).

Plan to make enough out of it to get my own long/open lens to allow me to get some better nature shots. Very limited with 200mm max (unless I put on the 2x like I did for these shots).

Will go down as one of the poorest finals in a long time. Altough nobody minds how poor the match is if they get the right result. On balance felt Celbrige should have won They kicked alot of ball into Sarsfield keepers hands. Players gave ball away very easily, not to mention the shooting. Replays are often a lot better as the nerves are gone. Like the last photo. Sarsfields for the replay?

That last photo is excellent. Definitely could do with a bit of cleanup at the top of the frame, but that's pretty minor.

Sports photography is all about capturing the moment and the emotion, and you've certainly done that. Well done.

    Cheers,
    Peter

not ment for the orginal poster but for anyone who replied about cloning out the top of the third image which i think is very good by the way....

if you dont compose the image correctly in the first place, take it on the chin and compose it correctly the next time...

can we please have some boundaries here... no cloning on what may be or would be editorial images. Cloning should only be used when doing a comerical or PR related job for a client, where there is no other photographer there... what if another photographer was standing beside this photographer and on the same focal lenght and angle as the orginal poster and both entered this image into a competition and it happened to win... would the orginal poster with his ethics feel bad.... when you are recording history (IE the Kildare football final 2008, IE being or attempting to be a PHOTOJOURNALIST) you should not clone... Crop YES, Level YES, Sharpen YES....Clone NO

Last shot is nicely captured.. Its all about right place right time and knowing what makes a good image.. As previously said tighter would be better but you were working to your limitations of the equipment and you did well..

Cloning out an out of focus foot and what looks like an advertisement board to polish a portrait shot is hardly a massive ethical issue and sensationalist at best, esp. considering what the context is. Obviously, if the cloning was something to do with blatantly altering an image to convery a different reality then it is unethical. I have no idea where you are going with the "other photographer" thing.

    Love the third shot Coolig.

One thing I generally do not take to is modifying photos - I'm an old fashioned photo perfectionist. I prefer to get it right through the lens.

BUT - here is the "cloned" version of photo 3. As has been said, cloning a foot and what looked like an advertising board (which happened to be another player laid down), is not an ethics issue, more an aesthetic issue.
