    Interesting light.
Did you use an off-camera flash?

    Hi Stcstc

    Nice shot and fine composition.

If I may just say - I would like to see this with a model moved away from the wall with a shadow cast on it.

The light doesnt seem to be spread out evenly...

i think the thing with the light is because i added to the shadow on the left hand side

If I was being a small bit critical, I'd crop some off the top, especially the line in the wall structure.

The shadow on the back wall, I find to be distracting.

The light definitely works better with the model than the wall, did you use any diffusion? As Sinlight says, I'd move the model a few foot out from the wall, it'd give much better seperation between the model and the background (In regards to both lighting and depth of field) so with two lights, you're using one on the model, and one for the background, or possibly the second one as both a hair/rim and background light - That wall could be made much more dramatic if lit seperately.

    Come on, more!

it was a bit of an experiment really

this was the last shot i took, and kind of a last moment pose really

here is a B&W conversion of the same shot

I must say that this conversion is no good for the model as it is now - I would brighten the lips a bit, hair on the forearms come up as well...and the shadow is just to dark at the moment.

nonetheless great for the first attempt with lights :)

hi steve - nice work there. I wouldn't have noticed the model on the wall thing but with others having pointed it out i think it would make a big difference. Technically i think its very good - possibly a little too much light on the wall (maybe down to preference) but the contrast from light to dark in the image is stark - perhaps that was the desired effect.

I've looked at this a few times during the day since you posted this morning - and i think there's something a little funny.... well strange maybe with the pose of your model. I can't put my finger on it even having reviewed a few times. I think with her pose and clothes layout - proportions of top & bottom - the right arm looks a bit weird - like out of proportion. The 'shoulder to elbow' appers to go all the way to her hip (which i assume it doesn't but its reflective of the layout of her outfit proportions). Then her elbow to hand kinda doubles the already long length. Sorry - this doesn't really explain it too well - i think there is something unnatural about the proportions of her right arm as exacerbated by her clothes.

Again the photography is technically quite good so my critique is more around the pose.

    Hope that helps.

Loverly portriat Steve, from a styling point of view, the seam under her armpit is a bit, uh, seamy and lilies are so out of season ...

Great stuff though, I think the crop is perfect.

.......Also the lilly is touching her necklace and her lips look a bit obscure, if she was pouting a little it would give a more rounded apearence, other than that its a great shot, luv the lighting.

I hate to post this but its meant to be constructive so I'll take a chance and apologise in advance if you're offended.

To me the model doesn't look relaxed. Its as if her pose is strained or physically uncomfortable in holding the pose.

I love the idea 100% think it has huge potential and I know I could never produce something as good as you have done here.

I'd love to see more of your shots. Do you have any holding a different pose? Was it hard to find the flower you used in the shot as it superb!

The c&c on this is really interesting, for me a relative newbie. Initially, I looked at the shot and thought "really nice" and it is (!), the c&c though is really helpful in its suggestions as it tends to point out things that to an untrained eye would not be obvious!
OP, this is probably more of a general comment about c&c. :)

I think I agree with some of the other posters.
Your model doesnt look relaxed, which is a shame because the composition and lighting is great.
    She just doesnt look comfortable.
To me photography is about making the subject look the best it can be
and this just didnt do it.
As I said Colour, lighting, etc great, just looked as the model was trying too hard.

I am planning to do a photo shoot in a fortnight! I love your location - would like to have seen a few taken from bottom left angle see how it worked - and have to say lilly isn't for me - scrunching her hair mabe or her arms supporting the pose but over all it is a really lovely comp. What sort of lighting did you use?
