Interest check - My Oscar

    Hi there guys and gals.

Just wondering what the interest might be in my Nuova Simonelli Oscar for about €500?

Substantially improved over original with an Izzo Vivi OPV. Recently descaled, cleaned after every shot. Mr Magnolia will attest to the quality of shot it can produce.

Comes with the standard spouted portafilter and a bottomless one that cost about €50.

Thinking of moving up to a twin boiler, but will have to muster funds for that.

I also have a Mahlkonig Guatemala grinder that although a fantastic grinder, and my current choice for all my French press / filter needs is just too big for my kitchen. In reality it is a shop grinder. It even has an attachment to grind straight into bags for customers. If someone was interested in that I'd let it go for €150.

Last but not least, I have a Gaggia TD, single group, plumb-in machine (although will run off a tank). It's a HX machine and can go for about €1500 new. It has a problem though in that it needs a new Gicar unit (as far as I can tell) which will cost about €60. I'd let this go for €150 and just cut my losses.

I can confirm the quality of shot alright.

I don't know what I'm going to do/purchase next, other than that I'd consider this myself.

You really are a junkie re*ac*tor. Good luck with the sale. If I drank more espresso I'd seriously consider it myself.

It's a disease - not 100% certain if I'm going down this route or not. Hence the gauging.

Must admit I'd be tempted only I just splashed out on a new car so all
upgrades (apart from the "when will it be released-Behmor) are on hold
    until the new year.

Does the TD have the same portafilter as a domestic Gaggia? I was looking for a bottomless one and found a cheap one for a Commercial machine - I was wondering if they were interchangeable.

As far as I know no.

Anyone maybe interested in the Oscar @ €450?

That's about the cost of a new Rancilio Silvia and it's twice the machine.

(incl naked portafilter & 58mm rattleware tamper)

Sold. Now for a new grinder...

    Assume it's still available?

Cool. Yeah - tis still available.

As for the new grinder, new thread might be an idea...

I have some thoughts on that front.

Sold the Mahlkonig Guatemala last week also.

Only the Gaggia TD left. Reckon, I'll have to get here back in business before anyone would be interested. Ho hum. So little time.

Have bought a NEW Brewtus II by the way.

    Done and done.

Tell us about what you're upgrading to, I assume you've chosen? Is it en route?

As per my late edit - yeah Expobar Brewtus II.

€1200 before shipping etc. Dual boiler, PID (only just added to the machine - previously a more "normal" digital thermostat), E61 brew head, vibe pump, reservoir.

Would have loved the Izzo Alex Duetto, but at €1800, I couldn't justify it.

    Tis en route (I hope).

Good stuff, I'm just checking the dimensions of the Oscar, it should fit on the standard kitchen counter? Bit worried now!

Edit/ The dimensions here have to be wrong?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,473 ✭✭✭RE*AC*TOR

    30cm x 40cm x 40cm - sounds about right to me.

Fits on my standard kitchen counter with ample room to spare at the front. Under the cabinets there's plenty of room for cups and stuff, though you may have to pull it out to refill. (what I do is I have a braided hose attachment for the tap, which I pull out of the press when I refill - saves me having to pull the machine out every time). Of course if you have uncovered counter space - even better.

    That's grand so, thanks.
