I'm not one put its probably cheaper than going to UCC (if you're not living at home)

Accomodation can be found for around €150/200 in French student complexes (these may not be the best). You would probably be better off avoiding Paris if you are on a tight budget

The EU also give you a grant, think it is between €1500 and €2000

Added to this the cost of living in France is a good bit cheaper than Ireland

Hey, I'm just back from erasmus in France....

I was lucky that my parents were able to support me while I was away but I'd say if I was due to go this september there would be no way they would be able to afford it with the recession and all!!

Anyways... my rent was 350 a month, i was near the south of France but I had other friends in Paris that were paying 800 each a month and in Strasbourg that were paying around 500.

The 350 included charges for water, heating etc.

CAF is the government funding you receive each month which most of the time you must sort out yourself, unless your landlord is kind enough to do it!! we got 87 a month. We started organising CAF in october but I didn't receive anything until March when I got a lump sum, so don't depend on this money to live on!!

I got around 900 a month from my parents, and I was there for 7months. We also got the Erasmus grant of 1800 in 3 installments with another 300 yet to come!!

Student accommodation was much cheaper (around 200 without CAF) but it wasnt as nice as our apartment!!

Most of my money was spent on food and travelling. Alcohol is really cheap so it doesnt make much of a dent in your budget really!!!

If you can afford it, go for the experience!! it was brilliant!!

    xxx
