Can I get Independence Day WITHOUT 8 mins of additional footage?

Anybody know if it's possible to get the version of Independence Day the movie without the additional footage? It ruins the movie in my opinion and I'm looking for one with the VHS/theatrical release except on DVD. My mate says he owns it but bought it 6 or so years ago. Any help?

    Ebay?

I remember I was watching a copy of it a few years ago (might have been some "deluxe" edition) but it had the theatrical and extended versions.

Is the extra 8 minutes that bad? You could always wake up 8 minutes earlier on whatever day you plan on watching it :D

I'm not sure how an extra 8 minutes can make that film any worse, over indulgent crap.

    Got this as a response

"The Extended version has more about Russell's younger son getting sick because Russell didn't get him his medicine, apparently he has an ongoing problem. In the theatrical cut it just seems like the kid got sick because of all the excitement. There is a scene were Miguel explains that Russell is not his father he's just a guy who married his mom, apparently the youngest son is the only one who is actually Russell's and he's the reason why Miguel has stayed with Russell because of his little brother. When the RVs pull into Area 51 everyone is causing a commotion trying to get the unconscious alien inside but Russell strongarms a doctor and tells him he has to get medicine for the youngest boy or he will die. Miguel is impressed with Russell for finally doing something right. Russell's daughter meets a nicer boy during the RV rally, I think. At the end when everyone is sitting around holding hands in Area 51 when the destroyer is on the way, Russell's daughter and the nice boy sit together echoing the earlier scene with the other boy, she tells him she doesn't want to die a virgin and he says "well if we die we'll both be virgins." I think they said most of the Russell family storyline was cut for time.

There is an extra scene with David and Julius driving to Washington where they lose control and almost hit a sign or something, it was just comedy. A scene with David in the cockpit of the alien craft I think with Dr. Okun trying to figure out how the controls work.

There's a scene with Vivica Fox at the strip club she's got her kid and dog in the back room when she finishes her show. She has an argument with her boss about her paycheck, the scene explains that the only reason she came into the club when all the alien invasion stuff was happening was to pick up her paycheck and she got talked into working. I think they cut it for time but they felt the final cut makes her look kind of dumb for going into work while the world is ending.
    "

I also think there was an added scene when Vivica Fox and her son are driving through the wreckage, whereby a religious doomsday fella with a cross is shouting about the end of the world.

I just think that the added scenes turn the movie overly cringy and embarassing. So there is no theatrical edition that can be bought in a shop?

Ha ha, no it's not about the time taken to watch it, it's the lack of quality of the parts put in. They're corny and cringe-worthy.

I always thought the original 145 minutes ruined the film.

Let's face it, the only reason any of us watched it is because we wanted to see the White House blown up!
