Problems after 2.50 update

I've just updated my console to 2.50, and since have not been able to load any disc. After doing a bit of research seems there may be a problem with the BD laser.

Has anybody else had a similar issue? Or is it just an unlucky coincidence that it's happened immediately after a system update...

I've also just located my receipt (luckily), so I'll be giving Sony a call in the morning.

Probably just a coincidence. Mine updated fine. :)

    Hey,

I have the same problem also. System wetn really slow and everything I tried to do made the system freeze up. If you pick format disk in the system options part, or the quick format, it sorted it after a bit. A lot of nervy phonecalls and sony didn't know what it was..................I was out of warrenty also but all ok now! Seems to be some problem with it!

Yeah I 've noticed a glitch with blu ray playback since I updated to 2.50. Normally with a blu ray disc in the drive, it shows up on the XMB. But after the update, I have to eject the disc and re-insert it for it to show up. Damn, I should have followed my own advice and waited a few weeks to update the firmware "after" Sony have the bugs worked out:mad:

I got 2.5 at the weekend there and my system is running fine. Must be an unlucky coincidence.

Got a replacement in Xtravision earlier, the girl said they'd had a few returned this week.

She also said her own had died after the update, although her ps3 was still reading games unlike mine which wasn't detecting anything in the drive.

All happy now though as I'm back up and running 2.50 on new machine with no errors.

I'm having a major problem with video playback. Since the update, it's displaying all videos in 60Hz which my crappy old CRT doesn't support. This means everything is black and white!

Its a conspiracy to make you upgrade to a new Sony Bravia LCD.

BTW, I have a 32 inch Philip CRT widescreen for sale if you want to upgrade to a bigger crappy CRT ;):D

Well since the update when I'm watching a video and press the PS button the video stops in the backround when the XMB appears. It used to just play before the update. :(

I haven't tried video playback since i got sorted. I'll give it a shot when I get home and see if there's any issue on mine.

updated mine and the sound went to ****e. crackly and distorted. then i turned the machine off and it came up on restart with a "rebuilding drive database" i think it was, and again the sound was rubbish. so i turned it off, flicked the switch at the back, and left it for 30 seconds, when i put it back on it worked fine

only thing it couldve been is the upgrade imo

So you don't miss any of what you're watching while you send messages and whatever else you're doing, and you believe this is a bad thing?

Yes, I do think its a bad thing. It looked pretty cool with the menu running over the film.

having problems with fifa09, can't get a two player game going, it stalls right after kick off and major slow down throughout the loading process, disc is in perfect order.

Aye, I really miss having the video playing in the background as well... If I wanted to pause it, I'd press x... Seems like a bit of a pointless feature to add (more like take away)

Not at this time. Pity. 2.50 is the only FW so far that I really want to downgrade from.

Coming up to Christmas. Sent a lot of time putting movies onto my PS3 for easy viewing over the holiday period. Black and White FTW? I think not.

I just hope they release another update before Christmas to fix these one or two niggles.
