What do I need

I am in the process of doing up a room in the house and want to wire for a decent enertainment system. PS3 will be used to play bluray through samsung LCD, but I want to wire some sort of surround sound off the TV. I also want to be able to connect my laptop to the system from time to time and play music through it. Ditto for an ipod (if possible).

Basically, can anyone recommend a unit to do this? I think i need a Hi-Fi system with 2 aux inputs, one for laptop/ipod and one for TV, but I'm not sure if this would even be available. Any help appreciated, cheers.

Also, doesn't need to be an expensive system, infact the cheapest way of doing it would be the best!

Thought about this for a while and done a bit of research on it. I think I need a speaker set with dual inputs. Have seen the logitech z5500 but its a bit expensive and cant see anything else with multiple inputs. My next plan was to see if I could use some sort of combination of splitters/adapters to have outputs from TV and Laptop joined to 1 line-in for the speakers. Just worried about possible interference, although if I was using the laptop, the tv would be turned off (and vice versa) so maybe that would be ok.

i think I'll go with the standard set of speakers with a splitter/adapter setup if no-one has knowledge of any suitable setup.

Well I think your initial choice is best, the logitechs. I have them and they are great.

The great thing is they have a surround sound decoder built in so you don't need anything else!

Its cheaper in the long run I think also as it has very many inputs (analog and digital) so is kinda future safe.

Its no audiophile's wet dream but is a descent "all in one" solution.

Hi you don,t mention a budget and these days every budget is tight.
but don't buy something just to plug the gap buy something that will live up to future expectations.
Hi fi systems won't generally do surround unless you aim at a suitable dvd receiver . try looking at audica digital dolby receiver or possibly the new 5.1 slimstage units from soundmatters , i know it has inputs for game consoles and i-pods. these are expensive options. i'm sure there are cheaper options out there if you search.

Went with Logitech X-540 from pixmania (€75ish delivered). I can get simulated 5.1 sound from a 2-channel input from my TV, and can set up a system of splitters and cables to have another 3.5mm input for an iPod or laptop.

Granted, its not a true 5.1 system, but it'll do the job for me. Its only for the bedroom anyway. My budget was €100 max and having read reviews of the x-540 it sounds like what I'm after. To be honest, I probably wouldn't even know the difference between €100 and €250 speakers!
