Took a fair few photos of this only to leave my camera bag on the range. I'll try to get the photos up tomorrow night.

The event itself went off without a hitch, a reasonable turnout, scores in AR60 felt down a little but I'll wait to see the official ones (you know how it is, you shoot a match and you feel it was worse than it actually was). Shot AR60 and AP60 myself, wasnt' really happy with the last string of the AR60 but that's what you get for not training. AP60 wasn't too bad, down from before and still not all in the black, but again not training will do that.

Had to leave early to get back and pick herself up, sorry 'bout that convert :(

    Any results then??;)

Don't have them myself - I'm sure they'll show up in a day or so. You beat me on the pistol scores though, I only managed 504 (too many silly shots diving off into the white).

No, no, I mean your .22 pistol scores are a bit above where I was coming in!

And the air pistol only fell apart and had to be reassembled once during the match as well :D

I think this may be a case of mistaken identity.

We should have a poll of who Mark thinks I am!! lol:D

    Hehe. He'll probably click shortly.

Results today were decent for some, not so great for others. Mark Dennehy won with 549 in AR60. There was a three-way tie on 548 for second between Jim O'Hagan, Lorcan O'Carroll and Eleanor Mollett, with it ending in that order after count-back.

Typical of the 'seniors' - start a thread, then wander and forgot what they were talking about in the first place :p;):p;)

Anyone got the full results yet??

Oh, kudos to the new committee in UCD, it was run extremely well. I was genuinely shocked showing up 30 min early to find the place open!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,038 ✭✭✭✭Sparks

    :D @ the early comment :D
Nice change of pace allright - I was on the first detail and showed up a few minutes ahead of time thinking "It's UCD, it'll be delayed a little" and nearly got caught on the hop because they were ahead of time as well!

Haven't seen the official results for AR, but I got a preliminary sheet for AP60 as I ran out the door:
    1. John Cashman (Fermoy) 527
    2. James Farrell (WTSC) 523
    3. Joe Conroy (Fermoy) 512
    4. Mark Dennehy (WTSC) 504
    5. Leslie Fagan (Comber) 490
    6. Dave Cooney (ECSC) 472
    7. Nathalie O'Hanrahon (UCDRC) 421

I think I must have put Joe off a bit mind - having the guy standing in front of you have to stop half-way through the match to reassemble his pistol has to get you laughing hard enough for at least one 4 :D

When you say you swear by the IZH46, is that what you mean? ;)

No, I still say it's a great beginner's pistol (and I did beat three people using Feinwerkbau P44s that cost around ten times as much as my Izzy did) - it's just that while I swear by it, I swear at it as well - It's a pig, but it's a lovable pig :D

It's not the first time its let you down in a competition though. I agree they are very good value and when they're shooting they shoot well. The problems thoough would do my head in, I know someone who got three with seal problems out of the box

I've seen the O-rings go in the Izzy allright, but to be fair - they tend to go because someone fired the Izzy without the action fully locked closed (and when I say "go", I mean the O-rings just pop out of the pistol, rather than failing - you can collect them and shove them back in and they're fine). And the O-rings in the Izzy are standard ones, not some special part you'd have to order from FWB or something. We've had worse problems with the AR-30s we got from Hammerli a while back (3 rifles in, 3 rifles sent back inside six months, all with failures in the actions or air valves. Not impressive, though the stock design was simply fabulous, especially for a club rifle - which made them all the more disappointing).

For a beginners pistol that costs 250 or so to your door instead of around 2,000 before shipping, I'll cope with a loose linkage (which to be honest, you don't even need for the pistol to work, you can open the action manually before cocking the pistol if worst comes to worst). I mean - 250 quid. I wasn't expecting a rolls-royce for that money :D

Hmmm not quite, but, about an hour into the first detail, I hear 'Ah for fcuk sake' screamed out across the firing line. Turns out an unnamed rifle shooter was not best pleased with a shot. That same, anonymous, rifle shooter went on to have his pistol repeatedly fall apart during the next match

    :D:D:D

    It wasn't screamed out... :D

When I got my Spanish licence, I had to pass a practical exam (10 shots, get 50 points). As, of course, I didn't have my own pistol yet, someone lent me his.

At some point during the shooting I saw something protruding away from the body of the pistol, but didn't think much of it. Until the barrel fell off while I was aiming for the seventh shot, that is :)

Not sure about that - I was on FP1, you were on 14 - seemed pretty screamy to me even from the other end of the range :D:D

You guys should ask the UCD lads nicely for your shotlogs. They're very useful as a training aid. Here's an extract from mine from the Autumn Open in Rathdrum

    Series|Score|X -L/+R|Y -L/+H|R|Clock|Elapsed (m:s)
    1: 60 shot |10.0|2.06|-2.806|3.48|14:49.5|00:44.7
    2: 60 shot |9.7|-2.783|-3.679|4.61|15:18.4|00:28.9
    3: 60 shot |9.8|-4.067|-0.127|4.06|15:44.0|00:25.6
    4: 60 shot |10.1|2.679|-1.604|3.12|16:19.5|00:35.5
    5: 60 shot |10.6|1.119|-0.343|1.17|16:48.0|00:28.5
    6: 60 shot |10.2|1.963|-1.694|2.59|17:31.0|00:43.0
    7: 60 shot |9.6|-1.769|4.545|4.87|18:04.0|00:33.0
    8: 60 shot |9.6|3.59|3.366|4.92|18:40.0|00:36.0
    9: 60 shot |10.3|-0.112|-2.366|2.36|19:10.0|00:30.0
    10: 60 shot |10.0|-3.307|-0.321|3.32|19:41.0|00:31.0
    11: 60 shot |10.4|-0.284|-2.016|2.03|24:44.0|05:03.0
    12: 60 shot |9.9|-3.576|-1.724|3.96|25:12.0|00:28.0
    13: 60 shot |10.3|-0.903|2.053|2.24|25:50.0|00:38.0
    14: 60 shot |10.0|-2.023|2.74|3.4|26:24.0|00:34.0
    15: 60 shot |10.5|1.456|0.664|1.6|26:53.0|00:29.0
    16: 60 shot |10.0|3.203|-1.023|3.36|27:21.0|00:28.0
    17: 60 shot |10.5|1.008|1.277|1.62|27:45.0|00:24.0
    18: 60 shot |10.8|0.112|-0.381|0.39|28:21.0|00:36.0
    19: 60 shot |10.3|1.06|2.315|2.54|29:00.0|00:39.0
    20: 60 shot |10.3|2.173|-0.769|2.3|29:30.0|00:30.0

X is the horizintal co-ordinate of the shot: negative is left of centre, Y is the vertical co-ordinate: negative is low of centre, R is the angular distance from the centre. These are all in millimetres.

The elapsed time is a calculation from the match clock which I've added myself, as it's more useful to see the actual time taken over each shot.
