Roadworks and speed cameras on Lower Glanmire Road

Am I the only who is wondering what is going on here at the moment ?

Just after the skew bridge on the city centre side of town.

They are after putting rocks into the river and have built up a nice flat area going out a few meters into the rivers from the road. I know that there is a new bridge to go somewhere around there over to the new docklands development. This surely isn't it or is it ?

THere's signs for speed cameras up their too. I've been keeping an eye out for them but as of yet, I haven't seen an actual speed camera there. In fairness though, considering how tight the area has become due to the roadworks, a camera here is fully justified.

I suspect this is more for railway works than roadworks.

I dunno if they are doing any railway works per say.

Most of the work is being done on the other side of the road from the railway.

I think they are also doing some work on the old ruined house above the railway line.

Why all the trunking being dumped into the river though ?

I hope this isnt that stupid, idiotic road-over-railway bridge that'll serve the 20 odd houses who said they'd be happy enough with a level crossing. That bridge is an example of massively ugly overkill and will destroy the view you get up the Lee as you come round the skew bridge from the east. I thought it had been canned.

There is a cliff above the railway at this point and Irish Rail have said there will be some support works. I don't knwo if it applies to this section. While the bridge they proposed isn't going ahead, they are building two sections of road above the railway.

    Trunking?
