Its rare that we'd be talking about an amazing 400m performance in October but Curtis Woods' run in India of 47.27 for me is probably second only to Hession's runs this season from an Irish athletic perspective. Is he 15 or 16, I think its 15 as he was born in '93 I think?

Anyway, looking ahead I think that a medal could be on the cards in the Euro's in 2010. Presuming Gregan progresses and Woods sticks at it a potential quartet of Gillick, Hession, Woods & Gregan could threathen GB and the Belgians to be the top team in Europe. This by default means you are top 6 or 8 in the world. More depth there too now with 8 guys sub 48.

Exciting times ahead, but for now time for Woods to take a well earned rest.

    Curtis was 16 in September.

However as usual we are talking a young lad up before he even gets into the juniors.

Can anyone remember Stephen Aiken or Michael Morgan for example...

Agreed Doc. Celebrate present success, don't try to extrapolate into the future when so much can happen to young lives.

Has Hession given any indication he wants to run 400m at any stage. Any reason to believe he'd be good?

He ran 32.47 for 300m this season. A bunch of guys, like Calvin Smith and the Borlée twins, who've run in the 45 flat region, are behind him in the 300m rankings. It's reasonable to assume he could run 45 flat-ish with a good winter behind him.

They're predominantly 400m runners though, aren't they? You'd expect them to be better at 400m than 300m whereas you'd expect Hession to be better at 300m than 400m because he's a 200m runner. 300m is very rarely run so rankings aren't really that relevant.

Do you really think Hession only needs one good winter to be a national record holder at 400m. I'm not saying that he isn't that good, I just wouldn't have thought it and I don't think moving up a distance is as easy as a lot of people make it out to be.

I think if Hession trained for 400 he would break Gillicks time, dunno how long it would take. I don't think he should train for 400 though as 200 is his perfect distance. This season he needs to get his 100m time down and not his potential 400 time down as its his bend and first 100 which is the weaker part of his race last season. When I see Hession as part of the 400 relay setup I see him as still training 100% for the 200 and only doing to help out.
