    Hi lads,
Our newly built house is getting closer and closer to the finishing line,
Im just wondering in what order should the kitchen be done,
Im thinking we should paint the walls, install the kitchen, and then tile the floor,
Or should we tile all the floor and get the kitchen put on top of that,
I dont know should we tile under the units, even though we plan on keeping the kitchen for many years,
Does it make any difference if all the floor is tiled and the kitchen is then installed?
Thanks for the advice, i hope ive been clear in my questions

    Hi
There is no hard and fast rule to this but what I do is put on your first coat of paint then install the Kitchen leaving your kicker board off then install the floor tiles and grout then install the kicker boards make sure the tiler fits his tiles in further than the line off the kicker board then apply your finishing coat,s of paint then ask the wife to put on the dinner LOL job done

    Similar to above

We've just got the heating on last week...
Had all walls sprayed out white undercoat...
Tiling to start end of this week...
Then kitchen, (subject to moisture levels)...
    Then final paint colour..

Push push to be in for mid december... :)

    Cheers

Hiya, I'm no expert but would tile first anyway. Based on my parents house - the kitchen was changed during my lifetime but tiles weren't (well, actually they were, but ten years later again) - the original kitchen had an island and wasn't tiled beneath so there was all kind of hassle trying to match up, etc.
I think for what you'd save on tiles, tiler, grout, etc you're as well off to tile off to the walls. Re the painting - going by my builder - he's saying tile first, then install kitchen and all second fixing complete (timberwork - skirting, etc), give it a really good clean and then paint. If it's painted before all work complete there'll be sawdust, etc everywhere and if anyone bangs off a wall, etc there'll be marks and you'll end up trying to paint over dirty patches. hth

    My original theory -

Paint first - then you don't worry about paint splashing onto tiles.

Tile and wipe off excess grout from paint as you go along.

    Put in Kitchen.

    The reality -

Of course, I should have supervised any work that I was not doing myself as after I'd painted, the tiler had flipping grout all over the walls (and the ceilings for christs sake ) and then the kitchen installer scuffed all the walls and so I ended up repainting the kitchen.

Slightly OT but I think this is the furthest I've seen a thread go without input from the residents. Good advice given though.

Back OT I'd agree with Heatherview but would just add to keep a thought on Kitchen position when laying the tiles because it might look better with tiles centred in a certain position in relation to the kitchen.

    Hi Ashfield.

My opinion as an x-tiler is

    Kitchen 1st
    Tile 2nd
    Paint last.

Tiling is the messy part of the kitchen, if you paint before tiling you will have the brushes out again touching up the paintwork Guarenteed!

And some Tilers are messier than others but it is very hard to watch the paintwork when your on your hands & Knees tiling the floor.

    Regards,
    Shane:)

Ya i think as its a newly built house, we might paint the first coat on the plastered wall, then tile the floor then put in kitchen and then finish painting the walls,
    Thanks for the replies
