I Want To Leave My Job

I have a part time job which I started to pay the rent. I still have the job and its used to pay the rent and since I have no other income and have now finished college I am dependant upon it.

Recently the manager has started to upset me. His behaviour has been very abusive, not only towards me but other members of the staff, as he has been short with a lot of people. Some of the older staff say that its Christmas and he faces a lot of pressure and I can understand that but today he had a go at me on the shop floor and it was over a misunderstanding that could have been solved calmly instead of the guy asuming I was being insulting towards him.

I will admit in the past I have had trouble with authority figures and if I was 15 then I would have prob already walked. Whats keeping me there is jsut the money. In the meantime I am applying for other jobs, more serious carreer type positions with college out of the way, but I am wondering whether I should just pack it in and take a temp job/alt. part time job over Christmas while I wait for responses and interviews to the more serious stuff.

I am confident I can gain another position and I dont feel this manager should treat his staff or me the way he does, I turned down a part time position 2 weeks ago, and it would have been more or less what Im doing now but in a quieter enviornment and Im kicking myself ever since because I just feel I should walk.

On the other hand, I am conflicted, because there is a voice in my head that tells me I did this a lot when I was younger and it would be just walking away at the first sign of trouble.

I dont feel I can approach this guy about this subject, its not that kind of job, and it would not go down very well and he may just end up handing me my papers anyway. Id rather not do that because I want a reference, I believe thats important, and if I was let go they could refuse a reference and thats not fair because I have worked to the best of my ability.

    Suggestions?

Quiet word, look, boss, I know you're under pressure, but I really don't appreciate being spoken to in that manner. If it needs to be stronger mention the phrase "workplace bullying"

As long as you're NOT abusive to him, he can't do a thing about it.

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

Dont quit until you have secured another job. Check out the jobless thread in here to see.
If this was any type of career job then I wouldn't even recommend leaving, but since it's just a way to pay the rent it's prob not worth the hassel.

Be careful if you do leave for another part time job, a huge amount of places take on now for the christmas rush and come january, they lay off as quick.
