Does anyone have any advice on interviewing for a position in a special needs school?? I have an interview next week and have been trying to gather as much info as possible on IEP's extra, is there anything in particular they might ask that wouldnt be asked in an interview for a mainstream school??

    any advice would be appreciated:)

They might ask about different strategies to deal with particular problems, but I don't think there would be a huge difference in the interview.

Much depends on how special a place it is. Is it second-level? Apart from IEPs, be familiar with the JCSP and the subjects the children in the school take for examination, if any. Find out about where they progress to after Junior Cert. - LCA, National Learning Network etc..

They may ask you questions on the primary curriculum for moderate / severe learning difficulties. They may also ask questions on the role of an SNA, and on how you would work with an SNA. Other questions might include how you might teach literacy/numeracy, as well as life skills and social skills. I would imagine there would also be questions relating to dealing with behavioural issues. Best of luck.

Check to see if the school has a website for info.

Try to find out the learning difficulties they cater for & read up on these.
