    Welcome to Boards...

I moved your thread to Cable TV

Also Chorus & NTL in Ireland are now UPC.

What do you get when you put your address on the UPC website?

ex Chorus MMDS is about 60+ Digital and approx 11 Analogue.

ex NTL MMDS and all upgraded Cable is at least 100 Digital channels. Upgraded cable has phone & Broadband. They are upgrading the last 20% or so...

    No Broadband/Phone on any MMDS.

Cork is ex-Choris, Clonmel is ex-NTL, they used slightly dfferent broadcasst systems, so a box from one would not work with the other.

BUT, there is no such thing as a legal freview box for MMDS in Ireland. I assume you are talking of some class of illegal or stolen decoder box.

Ring UPC and they will sort you out with a new box.

Really if you want UPC service you need to contact them.

    The alternatives are
    • 4 Irish Channels free via Aerial (digital launches soon).
    • 50 or so TV and 30 or so Radio free (out of 100s of junk) via dish. Once off cost. No Irish TV.
    • Sky Pay TV Dish. From €24 or so a month. Includes 4 irish channels (and all the free ones obviously) Subsidized Install and unlike cable/MMDS you own the gear and can cancel after 1 year and still get thhe free channels.
There are NO free cable or MMDS channels. You risk Fine and/or jail if you manage to get any UPC channels "free" or even tell others how to do it. It is not primarily Copyright (civil law) but also "Theft of Service" (criminal law).

    .

Er, Clonmel was not ex-NTL. It is ex-Chorus, more to be precise ex-Suir-Nore Relays. Suir-Nore operated a cable system in Clonmel prior to 2000 - whether Chorus decided to do their occassional practice of swapping customers to MMDS when they got digital installed I'm not sure.

But in answer to the question that was asked. It's Cable in the town. As you head out it switches to MMDS.

Since it's ex Chorus take-over of Suir, then any place that had a bad or damaged cable could have MMDS too.

At least that's what they did in Limerick. Now that UPC has taken over a lot of those "in the town" MMDS have had new cable run with good Broadband on it.
