Cash strapped families could turn to the internet to buy expensive medication for their elderly folk to save money if Brian Cowen dose not back down on his decision on the medical card issue.

Many prescribed drugs are up to 75% cheaper in countries like Spain and Eastern Europe. Pensioners that are on a regular prescription of heart and blood coagulating drugs such as warferin may be tempted to get their families to purchase these drugs by mail order. Buying any prescription medication without a prescription is Illegal, dangerous and could result in death or other terminal effects.

Expect Canada then to make money from us then.
The Americans already are crossing the border to buy Canada's drugs.

Unlike not being able to afford the meds in the first place..which will also result in death or terminal effects (can someone explain the difference between death and a terminal effect to me in typical AH fashion?)kthxbye

What the hell, dont people know there is more than just one medical scheme out there ? Namely the Drugs payment scheme, it caps the cost of drugs at 90€ a month. Now before you say thats too much for somebody on an old age pension, then surely the means test will entitle them to the medical card anyway. So no, grampa wont have to get his viagra from the internet, or lipator. We arent the US yet, you dont have to prise open your wallet on your deathbed so somebody can actually help you.

Do you consider it a day wasted unless you start a rabble-rousing anti-government thread or something? I'm sure there are many more appropritate forums for your own special brand of lunacy.

The mother of one of my friends (Polish) is going to Hungary to visit a denist.

Apparently the cost, including flights, is cheaper. Weirdest thing ever.

She'll probably end up in a wet basement in front of an old guy holding pliers.

I didn't know RTDH was English. Don't think he'd be the sort to work in I.T. though.

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

Yeah old folks should have a medical card. That way we can track them and keep a big ol' database of what drugs they need to live. Our first step towards a 1984 world! I endorse RTDH's tracking of old people plans. Lets put RFID tags on them too so we know how much they need to go piss a day.

If you have a medical card, can you go to the doc as much as you want?

Everytime you go with a medical card, does the doc get his €50 or whatever off the government?

Yes, and more yes. It entitles you to free medicines from you a pharmacy and other things such as visits to a dentist.

Let me intercept what I think you`ll say next, its 100% fair that to doctor gets paid by the goverment. They tried to pull on the pharmacy's recently where if somebody paid for drugs they would only pay 95% of the price, so basically a pharmacy would be **** out of luck if it had alot of medical card users.

Send the sick people to Africa. According to those TV ads it only costs a few cent a week to get any kind of treatment and drugs.

Pharmaceutical companies are the biggest robbers on the planet, next to the oil-companies.

Africa has enough sick people of their own that they can't take care of without ours being there.

For all the complaining, I'm not seeing a lot of protesting. 50 old folks outside Willie O' Dea's house won't change much!

Its a whole lot of B*llix in all fairness, its causing undue stress on a hell of a lot of elderly people, sure i understand itd be means tested but if they have been gettin their visits to the GP and their meds free for the last so many years and now suddenly they could realistically having to find €150 a month??? Its not like they can start delivering pizzas at the weekend for an extra few bob. If they are going to start taking away medical cards, take them off some of the scoungers who cant be arsed getting off the drugs to find a job.

Why would cash strapped familys need Penis pills and Viagra?

I know. I mean, as long as you don't drink, drive, smoke, own a house, want to leave the country, enter the country or get paid the budget hasn't affected you at all. Lucky rich/middles class/upper middle class/lower middle class/everyone i've missed out on, people who have jobs, not doin any of those....wait a second!
This might not actually be very related to what you said, but youre gonna bring it up at some point that only the poor are beng taxed, so it's like a pre-emptive strike.

So that they can make a mint on the child allowance and retire to Bermuda.
